Travel diary of Marion Crowder Smith on her wedding trip from Los Angeles, California to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She and her husband, Hammerton Smith, begin their travel by train to Redondo, California then by steamer to San Francisco, California. They then travel across country by train, visiting Salt Lake City, Utah; areas in Colorado; St. Louis, Missouri and Cleveland, Ohio plus other towns and states. She describes the tourist attractions they visit, plus people they meet and relatives they visit.

This collection contains the diaries, correspondence, and biographic material of Maude M. (Mathas) Presslor (1898-1972) of Montezuma, Indiana from 1913-1970. Earlier papers and material relate to Presslor's life as a teenager and young adult during the World War I period. Letters from friends serving in France and a baby book detailing the early years of her three children, Betty Jean (Presslor) Montgomery, Frank Richard Presslor, and David Lowell Presslor, date from this period. Later papers and material from the World War II period include letters from her sons serving in the armed services as well as diary entries and newspaper clippings concerning major events of the conflict, such as the first use of atomic weapons. Post-war papers and material focus more on her family life and the activities of her children and grandchildren. Presslor's diaries from this era include references to and newspaper clippings concerning major events of the Cold War period, such as political assassinations and military engagements in southeast Asia. The collection also includes ephemera, such as bills, brochures, and tickets from Presslor's travels with her husband, John Dee Presslor.

Letter from Oscar F. Alston, Cleveland, Ohio, to his wife about his trip to Cleveland, partly by boat. He took his children with him and tells his wife how much they miss her. 1865. Per a researcher, Mr. Alston was part of a major migration of free people of color to Ohio from North Carolina.

Letters, 1908-1911, of Katie Pollock Thomas and Elmer Thomas of Danville, Virginia. Primarily consists of postcards written to Katie Pollock before her marriage to Elmer Thomas and postcards written to Elmer Thomas before his marriage to Katie Pollock. Includes holiday cards and picture postcards from friends traveling to various locations across the country. Collection includes 5 leather postcards.

A travel diary written by a person from Baltimore, Maryland. They write about touring through western Virginia on horseback and later Niagara Falls on foot. They comment on Virginia locations such as Mount Vernon, Montpelier, Monticello, Warm Springs, Weyer's Cave (now Grand Caverns), Natural Bridge, and the asylum in Staunton (now Western State Hospital) among other places. On the trip to Niagara, the writer mentions the conditions of the roads, the places they stayed, a Tuscarora reservation, and eventually the falls themselves. Content warnings for derogatory language towards, and descriptions of, Indigenous people and enslaved people.

Description of the train ride, his experiences on the train, and the sights that he sees along the route, with historical comments written about some of them.
