Circular logic is based on a series of circulars housed in the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Railroad archive at the Newberry Library. These circulars contain lists of employees who were terminated from the company in the late nineteenth century. The text for this book is taken directly from the lists, with the exception of employee names, which have been altered.

Among the notable issues included in the General Files are files of correspondence covering the Watergate scandal, the Vietnam War, and the oil crises of the 1970's.

This collection contains correspondence from Sanders to his parents during his years as a student at Washington and Lee University (1925-1929), including accounts of a 1928 cross-country trip with a friend. There is also correspondence from Sanders to his parents during his residence at American College in Sofia, Bulgaria, and later correspondence to his wife from Yugoslavia and while at several academic institutions, including Princeton Theological Seminary, Cornell University, and the University of Kentucky. Also includes a manuscript draft of The Bulgarian Peasant, a book Sanders wrote in the 1930's.
