Personal correspondence deals mainly with law practice; politics; the Tidewater and Deepwater Railway companies; appointment as Regent of West Viriginia University in 1887; one ALS from S. B. Brown requesting information about Hon. John Echols for use in a history of the Virginia Convention of 1861, also, copy of information sent in reply.

Civil War reminiscences of Andrew Nelson Campbell of Union, Monroe Co., W.Va. Campbell was a private in Jubal Early's army in 1864 and marched in and fought in the Shenandoah Campaign of 1864. The reminiscences discuss the battles of Cedar Creek, Spotsylvania Courthouse, Gettysburg, and more.

This is the third accession of the papers of Andrew Nelson Campbell. Mr. Campbell was an attorney in Monroe County, W. Va. He served in the Confederate Army and was a graduate of the Washington and Lee University Law School. He represented Monroe County as a Delegate in the State Legislature, 1872, and was a member of the Board of Regents of West Virginia University. He was, also, Judge of the 10th Judicial Circuit, 1888-1896.

Highway maps for the 55 counties of West Virginia created in 1937. They are in two tones (blue on white), in varying dimensions (including items in the range of 36 in. x 36 in. to 36 in. x 58 in., etc.), and scaled to 1 inch equaling 1 mile. Features indicated on the maps include: roads (US, primary state roads, secondary state roads); state, county, district, and corporate lines; railroads; streams; parks and forests; highway bridges; county seats; cities and villages; lodges; farms; houses; businesses; oil and gas wells; commercial airfields; schools; churches; mines; power plants; factories; hotels; and other information.

The correspondence, wills, deeds, receipts, recipes, remedies, and genealogy, of the Ellison-Dunlap Petrie families of Monroe County. The letters discuss family and business matters, enslaved Africans, the Civil War, and settlement of some family members in Kansas. There are papers about land and farming, including surveys, deeds, memos, and accounts as well as correspondence and printed material about the WVU Agricultural Extension Service. There are ledgers for Han Creek Mill and an account book of William Petrie. There is also an 1831 journal of William Petrie with entries about his travels to England, Cuba, New Orleans, and along the Mississippi and Ohio rivers. There are separations from this collection of photographs, pamphlets, newspapers, and broadsides.

West Virginia land records, including receipts for fees paid, surveys, certificates of survey, land patents, grants, correspondence and other material. Some of the records are copies rather than official documents. The records are sorted by the names of buyers and stored in envelopes. Recorded to the fronts of the envelopes is information relevant to their contents.
