Form letter with a comedic tone announcing the return of the undersigned soldier from deployment in Vietnam, created circa late 1960s. The letter, which was originally typewritten and then copied for multiple people to use, describes what the returning soldier in question will need and be used to once back home in the United States.

William Emory Paul World War I Papers, 1917/1919 0.8 Linear Feet Summary: 10 in. (2 document cases, 5 in. each)

The letters, diary, and service related documents of William Emory Paul, a Captain in the U.S. Army Dental Corps, who served with the 327th Inf. Reg., 82nd Div. A.E.F. in France during World War I. Most of the documents are supply forms, regulations, and his service records and identification papers. The diary records his time spent at the front working in medical aide stations during the Meuse-Argonne campaign, for which he received promotion to Major. The letters are to his parents or to his wife and despite censorship rules, depict with much detail life in training at Camp Gordon, Atlanta, GA, conditions in war time France, life at the battle front and the movements of his unit and his travels on leave to Paris, Marseilles and Nice.

Collection of 20 postcards of buildings, people, and businesses in the Williamsburg area. Buildings include the Colonial Hotel, George Washington's Headquarters, Court House, and Duke of Gloucester Street. Postcards of people depict them in a working environment. One postcard is addressed to Captain Irvin from Edward Walford. Other postcards show scenes from Camp Wallace and the James River.

William T. Buford Military Record, 1941/1952 0.70 Linear Feet

Official Army records of William Tucker Buford's military service from his enlistment in 1941 to his dismissal from service in 1952 due to a guilty plea after being court martialed. Buford was an African American service member who served in World War II and quickly rose to the rank of First Lieutenant by 1949. In 1943 Buford also received a diploma for completing the engineer officer course at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Throughout his career, Buford served in multiple locations including Louisiana where he was in charge of an engineering unit, and California where he was appointed commander of the 795th Engineer dump truck company at Camp Roberts. He remained with that company as it transferred from Camp Roberts to Fort Lewis, Washington. Buford's undoing with the Army occurred while he was stationed in Korea with EUSAK (Eighth United States Army in Korea). He was charged with selling lumber to a South Korean man in excess of 100 dollars. Buford plead guilty to the charge and his sentence was dismissal from the service, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, and two years of hard labor. This record includes some photographs of Buford along with the companies in which he served or commanded.
