This collection is composed of letters to and from Rockbridge County, Virginia native Henry Ruffner "Ruff" Morrison before and during the American Civil War. Correspondents include his brother Luther, his father Robert, family member and neighbor Sarah H. Crawford, associate Thomas Perry Gwynn, and fellow Washington College (Va.) alumni and soldiers John W. Reilly and Thomas W. Read. Highlights include a December 2, 1860 letter from Morrison while he was living in Macon, Georgia written to his father regarding sectionalism and disunion.
