This collection consists of photographs of the Alphin Family of Rockbridge County, Va. There are two copies of earlier family group photographs and one copy of photos of Katherine Alphin and Phoebe Hayslett Alphin. All family group images are identified and include surnames Alphin, Dickson, Hardy, Snider, McGuffin, Teaford, Kirkpatrick, Cook, and Hazlett.

Cook family
Bulk of collection consists of the papers of Allen M. Cook and documents the development of subdivisions in Norfolk and Virginia Beach, and the career of a naval officer from 1899 to 1919. Includes business papers, financial documents, diaries, correspondence, scrapbooks, and newspaper clippings. Of note are the minutes and proceedings of the Princess Anne and Norfolk Mutual Building and Loan Association.

Papers of Thomas Tavenner and the Tavenner family of western Virginia, including correspondence; memoirs; journals; financial and legal documents; pamphlets; newspapers; and other material. Much of the material in this collection regards the Civil War. The Tavenner family were Confederate sympathizers.

Papers of the Tavenner family of western Virginia, including correspondence, newspaper clippings, maps, and other material. Much of the material in this collection regards the Civil War. The Tavenner family was sympathetic to the Confederate cause. One member of the family, William Cabell Tavenner, served in the Confederate army; his letters are part of the collection. This collection also contains material related to families allied to the Tavenner family by marriage, particularly the Withers family, including material regarding Alexander Scott Withers and his book Chronicles of Border Warfare . The collection is organized into six series, including: 1. Genealogy (1868-1952); 2. Correspondence (1778-1953); 3. Maps (1863, 1939, undated); 4. Miscellaneous (1822-1950, undated); 5. Steuben County, New York, docket book and unrelated legal manuscripts 10 items

This docket book kept from 1828 to 1830 records cases heard in an unknown, but possibly Steuben County, NY, court. Entries include names of plaintiffs and defendants; dates of actions; final dispositions; and fees, damages and court costs. Most of the cases were decided for the plaintiffs. There were a few trials held at Harpending's Inn, and a few were appealed. The towns named in the cases were located in Steuben County during the early nineteenth century; they are now in Schuyler County. The book belonged to the Cook family who kept farm accounts in the back during the 1830's.

Collection is chiefly handwritten notebooks containing genealogical notes and notes on the history of Gloucester County, Va.; and notes on various families (especially Booth, Cooke, and Catlett). Also includes copies of the Abingdon Parish Register and the Botetourt Lodge Masonic Book, 1800-1809; and pictures of buildings and houses, mostly in Gloucester County.
