William H. Harrisonwrites to Dr. Arthur Brent, of Bremo Bluff, Fluvanna County, February 21, 186[6?], on Army of Northern Virginia, Headquarters Cavalry Corps stationery, [Richmond], Virginia, that he has not received copies of his newspaper. He asks Brent to have Mr. Cabell send it "immediately from New Yorkas I am most anxious to see its many pages at this momentous period." He expresses thanks that a split in the ranks has occurred and hopes that Andrew Johnson's veto message might crush [Benjamin Franklin] Wade, Mr. Wilson, and [Thaddeus] Stevens.

The Cocke- ElliotFamily papers contain ca. 15,000 items (41 Hollinger boxes, ca. 17 linear feet and four oversize folders), ca. 1773-1992, and consist largely of personal and family correspondence, financial and legal papers, memorabilia, bound volumes, and genealogical and historical research material pertaining to the Cocke, Elliot, and related families from the colonial period through the twentieth century, assembled by John Page Elliot.

This addition to the papers of the Duke familyof Charlottesville, Virginia, consists of twenty-one items, 1836, and 1865-1919, chiefly the correspondence of Colonel Richard Thomas Walker Dukeand his son, Judge Richard Thomas Walker Duke, Jr.

Morrill Civil War Collection 1862-1907

This collection consists of 144 items, 1862-1866, 1902 & 1907, pertaining to Corporal Wilbur F. Hawxhurst[b. 1845], Company E, 65th Ohio Veteran Volunteer Infantryand Charles Plummer Morrill, 24th Maine Infantry, describing their experiences during and after the Civil War in Georgia, Louisiana, New York, Tennesseeand Texas. Also present are military discharge papers for Hawxhurst and Morrill's brother George Morrill[b. 1847], a member of the 4th Maine Light Artillery, a photograph of Hawxhurst (see his letter of January 31, 1866) and three ambrotypes: Charles Morrill(taken in Memphis, Tennessee, 1863), an unidentified woman and an unidentified man. A calotype print of an unidentified young Atlantawoman is attached to Hawxhurst's letter of May 31, 1865. The letters of Hawxhurst and Morrill are described below as two separate groups.

[Expresses disgust about machine politics, Senate's consideration of the articles of impeachment of President Andrew Johnson, and his own failed efforts "to stem the tide" in Massachusetts; mentions views of [Robert Cummings] Schenck. Part of this letter has been cut away, but not the signature.]
