Includes administrative records, such as correspondence, minutes of stockholders meetings, deeds and other land records, financial and insurance records, equipment inventories, and records of mineral water sales. There is also some ephemera, including a Borland Springs mineral water bottle label, and a photographic postcard documenting the facilities.

An 1851 letter to Rebecca Coplin from Harriet Burdett of Pruntytown, West Virginia, on community health, family affairs and Methodist church matters. A merchandise account book, 1859-63, of an unidentified general store owner and inn keeper; steamboat bills of lading for the Kathryn and French of the Little Kanawha Packet Line (Creston-Parkersburg), 1899 and 1905. There are also mimeographed sketches on the history, topography, scenery, agriculture, geology, rural development and natural resources of West Virginia by a Wood County agricultural extension agent, C.R. Titlow.

Features indicated on the maps include: roads (US, primary state roads, secondary state roads); state, county, district, and corporate lines; railroads; streams; parks and forests; highway bridges; county seats; cities and villages; lodges; farms; houses; businesses; oil and gas wells; commercial airfields; schools; churches; mines; power plants; factories; hotels; and other information.

Subjects include Levassor's extensive landholdings in Kanawha, Lincoln, Jackson, Wood, Wirt, and Monongalia counties, and activities of his land agents; James Swann lands; the coming of the Northwestern Virginia Railroad to Parkersburg; the Panic of 1857 in that city; oil fever in the Wood County area, 1859-1866; and the activities of J.H. Diss Debar, West Virginia's first commissioner of immigration. Correspondents include J.H. Diss Debar, James M. Laidley, Charles Lisez, and Alexander Quarrier.

Papers regarding West Virginia statehood and the history of Wheeling and Ohio County compiled by Judge Gibson L. Cranmer (1826-1903) of Wheeling, West Virginia, who served as secretary of the Wheeling Convention that repudiated Virginia's secession from the United States in 1861. Series 1 includes manuscript narratives and correspondence describing events of the West Virginia statehood movement, written by eyewitnesses at the request of Gibson L. Cranmer. Manuscript authors include John S. Burdett, John S. Carlile, Daniel Frost, Lewis Ruffner, and Benjamin Wilson. Series 2 includes Cranmer's handwritten notes, drafts of articles, copies of documents, and letters solicited by him regarding the history of Wheeling and Ohio County, West Virginia. Correspondence of Gordon B. Gibbens of Parkersburg, West Virginia. Subjects discussed include personal and family business, West Virginia Republican Party affairs, and Gibbens' political appointments. Correspondents include Senators Stephen B. Elkins, Nathan B. Scott, and James A. Hughes, as well as numerous Ohio Valley politicians. One letter (1896 December 21) is an endorsement by a group of "colored" voters of Wood County for Gibbens' appointment to political office, and another letter (1898 January 17) is a similar endorsement by a group of Wood County Union veterans.

There are several petitions of Wood County citizens urging the organization of troops to protect the constitution and government from "ambitious and disorganizing Demagogues...."
