American Political Items Collectors (Organization)
The American Political Items Collectors Collection (APIC) contains donations of scholarly material that relates to national political campaigns as well as American history dating from 1895 to 1988. This collection is comprised of presidential campaigning materials that stem from bumper stickers to voting ballots. Not only is it an extensive collection of presidential campaigns but it also houses historical magazines, newspapers, and many other manuscripts and books.

This collection contains documents assembled by House Judiciary Committee Assistant Counsel Arden Schell, relating to the investigation of the Watergate Affair (1972-1974). The materials include evidentiary statements, printed (GPO) publications detailing the House Committee on the Judiciary investigation of Watergate and resulting impeachment hearings, and other textual materials such as correspondence, notes, and transcripts.

Collection contains research and manuscript materials used by Dr. Herman to produce Joseph McCarthy: Reexamining the Life and Legacy of America's Most Hated Senator (2000) and The Idea of Decline in Western History (1997). Types of materials in the collection include newspaper clippings, research notes, subject files, correspondence, and manuscript copies of chapters and end notes.

Jones, Stephen

Research papers and drafts of a biography of William Chapman Revercomb (1895-1979). Original accession includes one bound typescript of over 540 pages narrating the political career of Chapman Revercomb, authored by Stephen Jones and Ann Bradley; includes photocopies of maps (with much demographic data) and photographs. Also includes a typescript of over 350 pages of second version of this book.

Rahall, Nick J., 1949-
Nick Joe Rahall II (b.1949) represented West Virginia's Third District in the United States House of Representatives for nineteen terms. He was elected as a Democrat to the Ninety-fifth Congress and served from January 3, 1977-January 3, 2015. From 2007-2011, he was chair of the Committee on Natural Resources. From 1971-1974, he was a staff member in the United States Senate Office of the Majority Whip, and he was a delegate to both the 1972 and 1976 Democratic National Conventions. The bulk of the Congressman Nick Joe Rahall II papers document his 38-year career in the United States House of Representatives.

The Eugene McCarthy presidential campaign papers contain documents from six speech file "books" used by the campaign staff. The speeches span from October 1967 to July 1968 and include remarks he gave prior to his entry into the race for the Democratic nomination. Some of the speeches are from campaign stops in particular primary states, such as Nebraska, and the speeches generally document McCarthy's positions on the VIetnam War, the economy, and race relations.

The Francis J. McNamara papers contains materials collected by Francis J. McNamara dating from 1928 to 1997 pertaining to American politics and culture during this period. It is comprised of newspaper and magazine articles, letters, memoranda and other personal documents, U.S. government documents, pamphlets, and other printed materials.

Moore, Arch A., Jr. (Arch Alfred), 1923-2015
Arch Alfred Moore Jr. (b. 1923) served two consecutive terms as Governor of West Virginia from 1969-1977 and a third term from 1985-1989. He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection for governor in 1988. Previously, he was elected as a Republican to five terms in the United States House of Representatives, serving from January 3, 1957-January 3, 1969. He was not a candidate for reelection to the Ninety-first Congress in 1968. He died on January 7, 2015, in Charleston, WV. The Arch A. Moore Jr. papers document his service as governor of West Virginia and in the U.S. Congress.
