Historical map shows locations of significant events in Roanoke County, Virginia. This map, taken from page C-8 of The Roanoke Times on September 29, 1986, also includes county and military history.

The Arthur W. Grove Family Papers consists correspondence, receipts, and other documents relating to the family from 1900 to 1957.

The eight documents (ca. 1865) within the collection detail a bank embezzlement case from the Blacksburg Branch of the Farmers Bank in Virginia. Nicholas M. Ronald, supposedly swindled patrons into writing him checks that would pay off their account deficits. Much of the collection consists of testimonials attesting to that suspicion.

Map shows business districts of Roanoke, Virginia, from 2nd Commerce to 2nd Randolph streets, between Franklin Rd/Tazewell Avenue and Salem Avenue, with business names and some tax statuses within plots of land. Reverse side gives historical, demographic, and business information about the city of Roanoke, as well as aerial photographs of the city.

The Fay M. Thomas Letters to Edward L. Stone consists of two 1931 letters from Thomas, manager of the Hotel Patrick Henry in Roanoke, Virginia, to Stone, the president of Stone Printing and Manufacturing Co.

The Granville Skidmore Kennedy Family Papers contain several letters, documents, cards, and photographs mostly addressed to Granville Skidmore Kennedy (1899-1986), the Director of the Dairy Division of the Virginia State Health Department, and his wife Wilma Hoyt Kennedy (1906-1989), an elementary school teacher in Henrico County and Roanoke County, Virginia. The letters contain general information about topics like health, work, and life. Most of the letters from 1960-1962 and some financial documents pertain to the sudden death of Granville and Wilma Kennedy's daughter, Elizabeth "Betty" Lois Kennedy (1937-1960), a student at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville who died in a car accident in 1960. This collection also contains the correspondence of Edwin M. Kennedy (1901-1974), Granville's brother. Additional documents and letters discuss the residence and care of Linda Lanier Kennedy, Granville's sister, a 1953 list of alumni from the University of Tennessee's College of Agriculture, and an undated letter to "Frank."

This collection contains letters, cards, and envelopes, dated 1918-1926, to Harry B. Cawley from his parents Mary and Robert Cawley, his brothers Marvin and Raymond, and friends, including Eugenia Rea and Kathleen A. Turner. The collection also includes school notes, two writings by Cawley, and two undated photographs - one each of Paul Guthrie Jones and of Lyn Bunting, possibly schoolmates in the 1920s. Cawley (1900-1946) served in the U.S. Navy in the 1910s and attended Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College and Polytechnic Institute in the 1920s.

This oral history project was an agreement between University Libraries and The Harrison Museum of African American Culture. It contians oral history interviews with forty African American people from the Roanoke Valley. The interviews are mostly biographical in nature.
