Bound and unbound historical records documenting the operation of the Commandant's office and of the Corps of Cadets. The earliest examples date from 1839, the first year of the Institute. Items include: guard records, morning reports, demerit books, inspection books, permit books, muster rolls, record of events, penalty tour and confinement records, Commandant orders and memoranda, World War I Training Camp (1917-1918), ordnance stores (1858, 1861), George C. Marshall signed amnesty document, Scott Shipp correspondence

This collection consists of the organizational archives and research papers presented by members of Lexington, Virginia's Fortnightly Club, a men's club organized with the purpose of discussion of current topics and social engagement. The club was founded in 1900 after similar clubs in Newburyport, Massachusetts (also called the "Fortnightly Club") and the "Conversation Club" of Louisville, Kentucky.

This collection consists of three personal letters written by General George C. Marshall to John M. Camp Jr.

This collection consists of the papers of Henry P. Fry, including:

• A four volume typescript titled "Memories of the Old VMI," written by Henry P. Fry (circa 1950). Fry describes his life as a cadet from January 1898 to June 1901. Particular emphasis is placed on the Class of 1901 and Fry's classmate Cadet George C. Marshall.

The Historical Photograph Collection is largely comprised of materials created by or for the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association. Some of the earliest photographs of the estate were created and sold to visitors by the Association as a means of income. Those efforts helped to establish an important collection of 19th century views. The collection spans the 1850s to 2000s and includes over 140 linear feet of analog material providing a visual history of the Mansion, outbuildings, tombs, grounds, events, visitors, collection objects, personnel, and changes throughout the estate.

This collection consists of a typescript and publisher's proof of Fifty years in China: the memoirs of John Leighton Stuart, missionary and ambassador. It includes references to and a prefatory note by George Catlett Marshall, an introduction by noted Chinese educator Hu Shih, references to Pantops Academy (Charlottesville, Va.), Union Theological Seminary (Richmond, Va.), and Yenching University in Beijing, China.

Papers, 1937-1973, of Admiral John Lesslie Hall, Jr. of Williamsburg and Alexandria, Virginia, and while stationed at Pearl Harbor, San Francisco and Norfolk, Virginia. The papers are both personal and professional. The collection contains material concerning World War II Operations TORCH (North Africa), BIGOT-HUSKY, AVALANCHE (Salerno), NEPTUNE-OVERLORD, and as well as the Army-Navy joint agreement on Normandy. Also includes material pertaining to his work with the USO, the Naval War College, Army War College and Armed Forces Staff College as well as speeches, newspaper clippings, photographs and pamphlets. While the majority of the correspondence is with his wife and with his brother Channing M. Hall, there is correspondence with prominent individuals: Omar Bradley, Arleigh Burke, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., Ernest Joseph King, George C. Marshall, Chester W. Nimitz, George S. Patton, Jr., Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman and other high-ranking military and civilian figures.

Superintendents' correspondence file containing a small number of letters from or relating to notable individuals, including U. S. Presidents. Includes Harry S. Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy (telegram announcing death), Ronald Reagan, John Glenn, Franklin Roosevelt.

This collection consists of publications and records from the George C. Marshall Research Library, generally from the 1960s and 1970s.
