Papers of George H. Breiding, 1917-2007, park naturalist for Oglebay Park in Wheeling and extension specialist for West Virginia University (1963-1978). Includes his writings from various publications and personal daily journals, ca. 1943-2007, with bird lists, the temperature, plants sighted, and more. The collection also includes various personal papers and records. Of particular note are his early journals pertaining to his time in the military, 1941-1943. Digital transcriptions of many materials can be found in the collection, as printed facsimiles of original materials, and as typed transcripts. In addition to his daily logs, other digital files include his birding lists from an African safari and a Florida trip; text of an article "Exploring How and Why Birds Sing;" and responses to emails from Michael Breiding asking for comments for his father's memorial service.

The materials also include CD-ROM discs, VHS tapes, and cassette tapes containing photographs, email correspondence, audio and video recordings of events and lectures, event and planning materials, and other professional documentation related to the ASPN. In addition, the accession contains professional papers of individuals affiliated with the ASPN: Jose Strauss, Adrian Spitzer, William Segar, Chester Edelmann, Billy Arant, and F. Bruder Stapleton. Series 1: Administrative Files, 1962-2016, includes annual reports; master plans; goals and objectives for various university divisions and departments, most notably the Office of Affirmative Action and the Office of Disability Services; philanthropic and scholarship initiatives; and documentation of Carrier's various honors and awards. Specific projects documented include the establishment of the College of Integrated Science and Technology (CISAT); the Edith J. Carrier Arboretum, named after Carrier's wife; and the Greater University Commission. The academic restructuring of the mid-1990s is documented in the CISAT files but specifically in a CD containing legal documents for the court case Faculty for Responsible Change (FRC) vs. The Visitors of James Madison University (1995).
