Special Collections includes manuscript collections, rare books, and the University Archives, as well as state, local and historical maps and photographs. The Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.) was formed in 1890 as an organization to perpetuate the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved American Indepedence, to encourage historical research in relation to the Revolution, and to promote the celebration of all patriotic anniversaries. The records consist of rosters, D.A.R. magazines, contitutions and by–laws, minutes and membership ledgers, yearbooks, scrapbooks, news bulletins, obituaries of members, and the original charter of the Alleghany Chapter.

Particular areas of emphasis are children's health and nutrition, food and food programs, and Extension publications from both colleges.

Carol O'Neale Culnan Architectural Collection, 1966/2016 5 Cubic Feet

The Carol O'Neale Culnan Architectural Collection contains a mixture of personal and business records related to Culnan's personal life and her architectural practice. Her papers include student work, fiber art and woven textiles, and photographs. Her project records span a variety of projects in the Baltimore/Washington metro area and southwest Virginia, primarily residential projects, and include original drawings and other files documenting jobs and clients spanning the years from 1966 to 2016.

The Christiansburg Industrial Institute Oral History Project consists of oral history interviews, transcripts, field notes, and other assorted documents produced by the students of Professor David Cline in the the Fall of 2012 in association with interviews conducted with former students of the Christiansburg Industrial Institute about their childhoods, the African-American community in Southwest Virginia, the student experience at Christiansburg Industrial Institute, the quality of the curriculum and how it prepared students for further education and the workforce, the closing of the school, and subsequent preservation efforts via the Christiansburg Institute Alumni Association and Christiansburg Institute, Inc.

The Despina Stratigakos Architectural Collection comprises her vita and published works including her dissertation and articles exploring the public image of women architects in Wilhelm, Germany (early 20th century), the contributions of women in re-building of Berlin, Germany, and exiled Jewish women architects in America. The collection also contains a 2011 Architect Barbie from Mattel and press releases concerning her creation.
