Trist Bringier McConnell was a Williamsburg resident who served as a civic leader and Mayor. McConnell honorable served in the United States Navy (Reserve) and retired as a Captain. He was elected to city council in 1988 and served in a civic capacity until his death in 2005. Among his most noted accomplishments are the successful blocking of a Walmart in Williamsburg, and the proposed bridge from Jamestown to Surry. Additionally, McConnell chaired the 300th anniversary of the founding of Williamsburg. In addition to his elected appointments McConnell served on the Greater Williamsburg Community Trust, the Public Library Board, and the Swem Friends Board.
