The collection also includes Gross' book collection and electronic parts. This collection contains materials relating to the significant contributions Al Gross made in the advancement of wireless technology. The collection provides a detailed look at the evolution of the walkie-talkie from a weapon against the Axis Powers in World War II to its functional and convenient purposes today. Throughout the progression of wireless technology, Al Gross remained an integral part of designing and updating wireless devices such as cellular phones and pagers to its now diminutive form using microminituarization and other scientific methods.

Cornett, Alice (Alice Cartledge Cornett), 1928-2008

Papers of journalist Alice Cartledge Cornett, including newspaper articles authored by or regarding Cornett, photographs, and copies of her obituary. Although her family and career would take her around the world, Cornett returned frequently to the Morgantown area and to the Appalachian region throughout her life. Cornett's father was a professor at West Virginia University and she graduated from Morgantown High School in 1945; this collection includes material regarding her graduation and 50th class reunion. The majority of material in the collection regards Cornett's career in journalism, which began during her time living abroad in the Netherlands in the 1970s (please note that Cornett was named "Alice Drago" during this period of time). During her time in the Netherlands, she wrote articles for a number of publications and founded the first English-language newspaper, titled "The Hollander". Cornett later returned to the United States and continued her journalistic career, writing for "The Sentinel Echo" of London, Kentucky, as well as for other newspapers. The Alice Langley Hsieh collection consists of three parts: (1) the personal papers and publications of Alice Langley Hsieh (1922-1979), a U.S. State Department, RAND corporation, and Institute for the Defense Analyses specialist on the military of the People's Republic of China; (2) the manuscripts of books written by her spouse, C. Kien Hsieh, himself an authority on Communist China; and (3) collateral publications from A. L. Hsieh's library on the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), the Maoist Cultural Revolution, Chinese nuclear capability, Japanese security fources, and other Far Eastern topics and issues.
