Also included is material on the Chapin family, Davis and Steen family genealogy and Reed family Bible. Correspondents are J.J. Davis, Anna Kennedy, J.W. Davis, Phineas Chapin, Rev. Asa Brooks, and J. W. Wayland. John W. Davis' certificate of Admission to practice before the Supreme Court of West Virginia dated 1896. His sponsor was Melville Davisson Post and President of the Court was Homer Holt. Also, Davis' commission as a Notary Public dated 1898.

Mildred Arnett-Reed Morgantown Scrapbook, 1924/1956

Photocopy facsimile of scrapbook assembled by Mildred Arnett-Reed (11' x 16'; 95 pages). Includes photographs, letters from her sister and friends, newspaper clippings, programs, and ephemera documenting Reed's activities in the Morgantown, West Virginia area during her high school years (1924-27). There are also clippings and letters regarding her wedding in 1931, and greeting cards for her 25th wedding anniversary. Photographs include candid and portrait shots of Mildred's family (William E. Arnett, Sr. family) and friends. Newspaper clippings report Mildred Arnett's marriage to Rufus Reed, birth of her daughter Ann, and local events and entertainment in the Morgantown area. Programs document musical, theatrical, and athletic events in Morgantown, including silent movies at the Strand Theater, and events of Morgantown High School and the Metropolitan Theatre, among others. Many of these programs include numerous advertisements for Morgantown businesses. There is also a program for the dedication of new facilities for Morgantown High School (1927). Ephemera includes name cards, dance cards, greeting cards, cartoons, school certificates, gift tags, tickets, and Alpha Xi Delta Sorority invitations and dance programs, among others.

Papers of the managing editor of the Parkersburg DAILY STATE JOURNAL, 1889-1895, editor of the WEST VIRGINIA SCHOOL JOURNAL, and member of the English faculty of West Virginia University, 1895-1925. The collection includes manuscripts of Barbe's published poetry and unpublished short stories, correspondence, notes, speeches, class lectures, illustrations for short stories drawn by John Rettig, a scrapbook of clippings of reviews and correspondence relating to Barbe's book, GOING TO COLLEGE, and memorabilia. The correspondence includes letters, in some cases accompanied by holograph verse, from Winston Churchill, Richard Harding Davis, Mary E. Wilkins Freeman, Hamlin Garland, R.W. Gilder, Edward E. Hale, William H. Hayne, Thomas Wentworth Higginson, Julia Ward Howe, William Dean Howells, Rupert Hughes, Stephen Leacock, Nicholas Vachel Lindsay, Amy Lowell, Brander Matthews, Margaret Prescott Montague, Bliss Perry, Melville D. Post, Edwin Arlington Robinson, Booth Tarkington, Charles Dudley Warner, Barrett Wendell, William Allen White, W.L. Wilson, and Owen Wister. There is also a volume of mounted holograph letters, 1884-1895, from the following American authors, a few of whom are also included in the general collection: Edward W. Bok, George W.
