Includes 47 glass plate negatives of West Virginia University student groups created circa 1900-1930. Subjects include football, baseball, and basketball teams; musical groups; and fraternity, sorority, and club groups. Three boxes contain glass plate negatives while the final box contains the original sleeves in which the negative were housed (with identifying information where present). Digital scans are available.

Includes images of the Mountainlair Student Union, Towers Dormitories, Mountaineer Field, WVU Marching Band, University Farm, Creative Arts Center (including students performing puppets shows at the CAC), President's house, Core Arboretum, and Mont Chateau, among others. Also includes two sepia tone, mounted images of a wagon on Falling Run and the Parthenon Literary Society Room in Martin Hall, ca. 1890-1910.

Also includes commencement announcements and other student memorabilia, newspaper clippings from Moundsville relating to the mound and Scott Powell, and other clippings apparently compiled by Charles Rankin.

Moreland, William A., 1916-1986
Papers of Alexander Smith and George W. Brown. The Smith papers are letters and receipts, 1794-1814, and include a letter from N. Suter commenting on a naval battle of the War of 1812, current prices, government, and business conditions and receipts for the payment for slaves. The Brown letters, 1870-1886, concern a gift to West Virginia University, marriage, and payment of land taxes. Correspondents or persons mentioned include Alexander Martin and John W. Mason. Receipts, 1881-1894, are for taxes paid by the Brown, Miller and Co. Also included are certificates of appointment and commissions, 1858-1921, for Virginia Militia, Quartermaster General and Adjutant General of the state of West Virginia, the Collector of Internal Revenue, the U.S. Army Officers' Reserve Corps, the National Guard, and a membership certificate for the Society of the Army of West Virginia.
