The collection contains an unfinished manuscript by A.J. Morrison about Prince Edward County, along with letters, newspaper clippings, and various documents about local history. Dates of materials range from 1754-1975.

Papers, 1872-1901, of Judge A. K. Leake, Goochland County, Va. Many concern the settlement of the estate of Henry Timberlake and the lawsuit, Timberlake v. Timberlake. Includes two insurance policies, 1899-1900, on property in East Leake, Va.

Papers of historian, researcher, and author Alan Clarke. He authored a number of books relating to the history of railroads in the region of the state of West Virginia. This collection is minimally processed.

This collection contains historic photographs collected by Alan R. Shirkey. Subjects include Natural Bridge, Jordan/Rockbridge Alum Springs, Lexington, and Buena Vista. The photographers were local and included Michael Miley.

Business, political, and official correspondence of the eleventh governor, 1901-1905, of West Virginia. Owner and editor of the State Journal, Parkersburg, 1881-1899, White was associated with many banking and manufacturing enterprises, and was tax commissioner of West Virginia in 1907 and 1908, collector of internal revenues in 1889, 1897, and 1921, and a Republican member of the legislature in 1926. Among the correspondents are G.W. Atkinson, Waitman T. Barbe, Calvin Coolidge, John J. Cornwell, H.G. Davis, Thomas B. Davis, W.M.O. Dawson, Alston G. Dayton, Davis Elkins, Stephen B. Elkins, Guy D. Goff, Howard M. Gore, M.A. Hanna, Henry D. Hatfield, William McKinley, A.W. Mellon, E.F. Morgan, H.C. Ogden, N.B. Scott, Hugh I. Shott, Joseph P. Smith, George C. Sturgiss, and I.C. White.

Papers, 1862-1864, and 1929, relating to Albert C. Swindler, Company. G, 12th Regiment of Virginia Cavalry which includes a letter, 1862, from Swindler at Camp Berryville, Va. to his wife Maggie (?) A. Swindler at Boston, Culpeper County, Virginia.

The papers chiefly consist of letters Albert Frederick Wilson (1883-1940) sent to his mother in New Jersey while a student at the University of Virginia. There is also some correspondence from Wilson's father and grandfather; family photographs; and unpublished manuscripts by Wilson.

These papers contain some correspondence of General John R. Kenly concerning his Civil War career and his book on the War with Mexico and includes a copy of a letter from General Burnside. There are also two newspaper articles, one on the Baltimore fire of 1904 and the other on the USS Constitution.
