Collections

This collection consists of 2 books that have been converted to scrapbooks by gluing playbills, poems, articles, drawings, and religious materials onto the pages. The scrapbook in folder 1 contains religious articles, poetry, and images pasted into a book on agricultural reports. The scrapbook in folder 2 contains playbills and concert programs from the National Theater, Ford's Opera House, the Alexandria Musical Association, the Vocal Society of the Assembly Presbyterian Church, etc.

The collection contains reports, correspondence, account books, minutes, warrants, court orders, vouchers, bills to be paid and to be collected, some printed matter, stocks and bonds, petitions, election returns, and poll books, ranging in date from 1750 to 1983, predominately 1825-1875. Topics include both the city auditor and the city treasurer records of receipts and expenditures for many city functions--the poor house, the police, employee pay records, etc.--, election results, the issuance of Corporation stocks and bonds, railroads, and canals.

The collection of Alfred E. Bradley largely concerns his service, first as Military Observer and then as First Chief Surgeon, with the American Expeditionary Force (AEF) in England and France between 1916 and 1918. The bulk of the collection consists of papers and documents covering the period May 1916 through June 1918 and concerns Bradley's service in Europe during World War I. The collection includes correspondence and documents mainly relating to Bradley's official capacity as Military Observer and Chief Surgeon as well as letters and documents of a personal nature.

Alfred E.Dickinson letters, April 2017, 0.03 cubic feet, are a collection of letters by a Richmond pastor and editor of the noted Baptist newspaper, "The Religious Herald." The letters are written to J. H. Cogshill, a New York based Richmond College graduate, soliciting donations and discussing the purposes to which those donatons are put to use (printing tracts for distribution, helping the rural poor and orphans, etc..)

Contains c.55 items, of Dr. Alfred Leyburn and the Leyburn family of Lexington, Va., including 22 letters between Leyburn and his wife, Ann Eliza, 1835-36; patents of Edward J. Leyburn.

Scrapbook, 1870-1882, of Alice Starke and Susan Starke which contains newspaper clippings, prints, and handwritten notes.

Journal of stories and poems by Alice Hermione Wheaton (1849-1949) of New York City. It is not clear if the entries were copied or authored by Wheaton. The title on the front page is "Scraps No. 1 by Hermione Wheaton."
