This record group contains papers and projects created by students as part of their coursework, such as honors theses and capstone papers.

Collection contains photographs, pamphlets, newspapers, cigar box labels (lithographs), cartes des visites, postcard, etc about Abraham Lincoln.

This collection contains bound volumes kept by Rockbridge County physician Samuel M. Hileman. One volume is of his medical lecture notes taken at the University of Virginia. The other four volumes are his account books from his practice. They include his records of treatment and his fees charged and payments received. The accounts for 1862-1865 are entered in a daybook of a Collierstown, Virginia general store.

This collection consists of personal papers of the Blain family of Albemarle County and Williamsburg, Virginia, including the Civil War period diary (1861-63) of school teacher Mary Randolph Blain. The diary, written near the York River in Gloucester County, Va. provides a picture of civilian life both in that area and in Williamsburg, Va. where her parents lived during the period. Also included are two letters written from Randolph Harrison Blain, brother of the diarist and a member of the Confederate Kanawha Horse Artillery commanded by Captain Thomas E. Jackson, to their mother Susan H. Blain, describing the military situation in and around Lewisburg, West Virginia in the fall of 1863; a letter written from Mrs. Susan Blain to her daughter dated May 23rd 1864 sharing local news and mentioning the Battle of New Market; an unidentified multipage account of Confederate actions in the Battle of Spotsylvania in 1864 possibly authored by Daniel Blain, brother of Margaret and Randolph and an Ordinance Officer in the 1st Virginia Artillery at the time, written on May 18, 1864 documenting the previous two weeks ; a typescript letter from Charlottesville, Va. lawyer and Civil War veteran Micajah Woods to Randolph H. Blain on their shared war service; a typescript muster record for Thomas E. Jackson's Battery of Horse Artillery compiled at the end of the war, and an unidentified manuscript war period list of captured Confederate prisoners after the "Battle of Williamsburg" (Va.) presumably in 1862. The list includes name, unit information, rank, and whether "exchanged" or "died".

This collection includes early Washington and Lee University papers and miscellaneous materials supplementary to the university's trustee's records, faculty meeting minutes, and treaurer's records. Much of this collection was found over decades from various locations on campus and housed in the Treasurer's Office.

This collection contains images of both African and African American individuals. The subjects photographed include military personnel, men, women, and children. Some individuals were photographed inside of a photographer's studio. The images vary in size and format and range in date from circa 1850s-1945. Each item has a description at the file level.

This file consists of a scrapbook of works written by Washington College student Alamby Miller between 1864-1868. Included are Virginia university magazines, clippings from the Southern Collegian, and original poetry. There is also a scrapbook titled Alamby Millington Miller by Professor James W. Massie dated 1870. This scrapbook is a typed biography including a letter from Alamby to his sister.

These photographs and negatives were collected by the Rockbridge Historical Society. They are of people, buildings, landscapes, and other subjects mostly concerning Lexington and Rockbridge County, Virginia.
