Hardesty, David C., Jr.

Papers of President David C. Hardesty, Jr. of West Virginia University. Before becoming President of West Virginia University, Hardesty was a lawyer and partner of Bowles, Rice, McDavid, Graff & Love (1973-1994) and West Virginia Tax Commissioner (1977-1980), among various other positions. After finishing his 12-year term as West Virginia University President (1995-2007), Hardesty was a Professor of Law at the West Virginia University College of Law (2007-2018). Some of the series titles in the addendum of 2019/09/03, including series 21-30, repeat some of the earlier series titles (e.g. both Series 7 and Series 21 are titled "Student Papers").

This collection contains materials from the West Virginia University (WVU) Women's Studies Program (WSP), Center for Women's Studies (CWS), Council for Women's Concerns (CWC), and Center for Women's and Gender Studies (CWGS), mostly dated between 1974 and 2018. The majority of materials relate to the growth and development of the CWS, particularly through events they hosted or supported, such as the Dickinson Symposium and the Women's Centenary.

This collection is made up of the personal and family papers of the Wharton and Radford families of Southwestern Virginia. While the bulk of the collection relates to Confederate General Gabriel C. Wharton and Anne (Nannie) Radford Wharton, it contains personal materials such as correspondence, financial documents, and family papers from other family members as well. This collection also contains materials related to Wharton's military service.

Microfilm of records of the Old White Sulphur Springs Hotel (now the Greenbrier Hotel), including ledgers for 1816 and 1827, an account book for 1830-1831, and guest registers for 1896-1898, 1910, 1911, and 1913-1914. These records have entries for many prominent nineteenth century Americans including Henry Clay, Stephen Decatur, John Tyler, John Floyd, and General John Preston.
