Business letters, 1833-1839, to Major William K. Perrin and 1855, 1860, to his son-in-law Wyndham Kemp, both of Gloucester County, Virginia from Perrin's step-son Robert W. Nicolson in Uniontown, Perry County, Alabama, about the management of a cotton plantation. Letters mention purchasing land, growing and selling cotton, and the management of the enslaved, legal and banking matters and uprising of the Creek Indians. Papers, 1800-1855 and undated, relating to the hiring out and management of enslaved persons in Gloucester County, Virginia by William K. Perrin. Legal papers, 1723-1895 and undated, include indentures, agreements, and lists of debts of William K. Perrin, George D. Nicolson, Sarah T. Nicolson, and descendants of William K. Perrin. Also accounts and receipts, 1806-1902, and undated.

William Lambert, Richmond, to Mrs. A. Galt (Mary D. Galt), Williamsburg Box Series 2, Box 3, Folder 29

Scope and Contents Consigns William to her care while he is in college. He has chosen engineering for a profession, so "should take tickets from Mr. Saunders, [and] Mr. Millington in Chemistry and civil Engineering." Fears the best boarding houses are full but hopes Judge Christian will take him in. Mrs. Galt is to dole out William's money to him, but "he will have but the little occasion for money if he attends to his studies as he has promised to do." Wonders if it is true that John is going South. Their son has been ill but is getting better. Caroline has been away. [Note: William Lambert (1790-1853) was the son of David Lambert and his wife Sarah Ege, and thus a first cousin of Mary D. Galt. William is William Lambert's son, and Caroline his daughter, the "Cary" of the many letters to Elizabeth J. Galt. See Ege Genealogy, II. C. 2., pp. 14-15.].

William Lamb (1835-1909), written while a student at the College of William and Mary, newspaper editor, Civil War commander of Fort Fisher, N.C. (1862-1865), coal merchant, Norfolk businessman and mayor (1880-1886), and member of the Board of Visitors and Rector of William and Mary.

Papers, 1783-1837, of William Langborn and concerning his estate which was administered by Burwell Bassett. Includes letters, 1793-1805, from William Murdock, agent for Langborn in London, Eng. and typescripts of letters, 1790-1791, from William Langborn to William Short; and abstract from the correspondence of William Short concerning Langborn. Subjects discussed by Murdock include Jay's Treaty; and Langborn's rental houses in London.

William Lantz Store
Business records of the William Lantz Store in Blacksville, West Virginia. Includes correspondence and financial records documenting dealings with vendors in primarily Baltimore, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Waynesburg (PA), and Wheeling (WV); these records are extensive and may actually represent an almost complete record of Lantz's vendor transactions. Vendor letterheads often feature decorative graphics as well as information about the suppliers. There are some records of customer transactions as well. There are also: two Civil War muster rolls dating from April and May, 1861, presumably for citizens of the Blacksville area; letters between William Lantz and his brother who worked in a bank in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania; documents regarding a proposed street railway between Blacksville and Waynesburg; and a scrapbook of clippings and photographs regarding the Lantz family and Blacksville. The scrapbook includes two artifacts: elaborate ribbons for attendees of meetings of the International Order of Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F.), including a ribbon for a meeting of the Rebekah Assembly in Charleston, West Virginia in 1912. The bulk of this collection dates from ca. 1840-1900.
