0.1 Linear Feet 1 flat storage box, 1 in.
Abstract Or Scope
Ledger documenting business transactions with Samuel Harrison for services and goods provided at his inn, and for his cooperage. The ledger, or daybook, contains over 100 pages. There is an extensive name index at the beginning of the volume referencing page numbers. There are transactions recorded for meals (breakfast, dinner, and supper); beverages (mostly whiskey, but also bitters, brandy, eggnog [pg. 22], gin, and punch); lodging; and horse care (including hay). The inn also operated a ferriage, documented on pages 2, 20, 27, and 69. Scattered in the volume are transactions for Harrison's cooperage, including orders for flour and water barrels. The location of the inn is unknown, except that it is thought to be in Virginia.

ARVAS is an aggregator of archival resources. ARVAS does not have control of the descriptive language used in our members’ finding aids.

Finding aids may contain historical terms and phrases, reflecting the shared attitudes and values of the community from which they were collected, but are offensive to modern readers. These include demeaning and dehumanizing references to race, ethnicity, and nationality; enslaved or free status; physical or mental ability; religion; sex; and sexual orientation and gender identity.

Many institutions and organizations are in the process of reviewing and revising their descriptive language, with the intent to describe materials in more humanizing, inclusive, and harm-reductive ways. As members revise their descriptive language, their changes will eventually be reflected in their ARVAS finding aids.
