Records of the Institute for the History of Technology and Industrial Archaeology (IHTIA), an organization affiliated with West Virginia University, including reports and research papers regarding the history of industrial technology and preservation of historical sites, particularly within West Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic region. This collection also includes photographs, negatives, and photo mechanical transfers of historical sites in these regions. This collection of 3,098 pieces, dated about 1764-1916, consists of papers of a family of Smiths who lived at Smith's Cross Roads, Mecklenburg County, Virginia, and the Walker family who lived at Brunswick County, Virginia. Most of the papers are dated about 1860-1900. Some of the more interesting works include the following:

This file contains an undated 18th century document recounting a speech by Chief Logan made to white settlers. According to this document, following a violent conflict between white settlers in 1774, which resulted in a number of dead Mingo tribespeople, Logan gave a speech against the whites urging revenge violence.

Correspondence, speeches, and newspaper clippings of a West Virginia Republican chairman, U.S. senator (serving in 1958), and member of the 1960 Republican National Convention platform committee.

This collection consist of 47 documents, 10 maps, and 1 map slipcase collected by Ted and Mary Wendell. The collection pertains to George Washington and includes 25 documents written, annotated, or signed by Washington. Much of the material concerns the Revolutionary War, western land claims following the French and Indian War, and British and American governmental records. The dates of the material range from 1721-1826.
