This collection consists of Mrs. Cox's research files and manuscripts, as well as papers from her membership in HAF. Research files contain typed and handwritten notes, news clippings, and correspondence. The main focus of the collection is in support of "Street by Street". Included are the Historic American Building Survey inventories of Worth Baily. Also in the collection are manuscripts and notes of several projects that Mrs. Cox assisted on, and pamphlets related to Alexandria History or Historic Preservation and Restoration.

The collection contains reports, correspondence, account books, minutes, warrants, court orders, vouchers, bills to be paid and to be collected, some printed matter, stocks and bonds, petitions, election returns, and poll books, ranging in date from 1750 to 1983, predominately 1825-1875. Topics include both the city auditor and the city treasurer records of receipts and expenditures for many city functions--the poor house, the police, employee pay records, etc.--, election results, the issuance of Corporation stocks and bonds, railroads, and canals.

The manuscripts vertical file is an artificial collection containing a wide variety of unique manuscript items relating to Alexandria, Virginia residents, businesses, organizations, and history.

The collection consists of correspondence, notes, working papers, copies of primary and secondary source materials, clippings, photographs, and minutes relating to Ms. Morrill's research concerning 18th and 19th century architecture in Alexandria.

This collection consists of six series: Correspondence, Literary Productions, Printed Material, Financial Documents, Women's Auxiliary of the American Legion, and Green Family. The correspondence series holds letters only to and from Esther Green. Included three folders (Box 73 Folders 1-3) with letters from Robert Rutledge, a youth for whom she helped secure a DuPont scholarship to the University of Virginia. While in college he updated her on his progress. Correspondence to and from other family members is located in the Green Family series. Approximately half of the collection concerns the Green Family. Several folders (Box 73.2 Folders 5-9) deal with an estate for which Richard Green was the executor. The Green Family series also contains genealogical information relating to the Muir, Magyar, and Green families and a few pieces relating to family businesses, Green and Bro. Furniture Co., and the Green Mansion House Hotel.

This collection is from the Kennedy-Barton family. James Kennedy (1753-1816) was a druggist based in Alexandria and in some sources he is listed as Doctor. He also was an owner of a bookstore by the name of "Kennedy and Sons". His daughter Sarah Kennedy (1781-1834) married John Gird. She was the owner of many books in this collection, and many were gifts from her father James Kennedy. This collection also contains books owned by Benjamin Barton. See also "Vertical File Bio. This Collection contains a number of items all from the original Ramsay Family papers which were donated to the Smithsonian Institute: an account book from Andrew and William Ramsay dated 1798-1801, photocopies of Ramsay letters, history of Ramsay house, genealogical notes on the Ramsay family, Rebecca Ramsay Reese papers and diaries.
