This record group contains archived materials about and created by Washington and Lee University's museums, comprised of Lee Chapel and Museum, the Reeves Collection, and the university's art collection, during the course of its regular business, such as official publications and records of its management.

Papers, 1672-1936, relating to the Northern Neck of Virginia. Includes plat, 1672, of 40 acres of land belonging to Ambrose Fielding and Jon Southerland and surveyed by Jo. Haynie; photocopy of warrant, 1694, for a survey and grant of Doeg's Island to William Sherwood (signed by Marguerite [Margaret] Culpeper, [Thomas, Lord] Fairfax, Catherine Fairfax, Alexander Culpeper and agents W[illia]m Fitzhugh and George Brent); typescript of petition, 1783, of Robert, Lord Fairfax and Denny Martin [Fairfax] to the Virginia General Assembly; and newspaper clipping, 1936, of an article by F. G. Lankford concerning education in the Northern Neck during the colonial period.

This addition to the Henkel family papers contains 225 items (3 Hollinger boxes; 1 linear shelf foot), 1791-1885, chiefly the correspondence of David Henkel (1795-1831) and other members of the family, manuscripts concerning religion and printing, notebooks relating to medical or scholastic subjects, and miscellaneous family papers. The Henkel family of New Market, Virginia, operated the Henkel printing press which became the most important bilingual printing establishment for German Lutherans in the states of Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina during the nineteenth century. The Jan Karon papers (66 cubic feet; 1918-2018) contain Mitford book typescripts and galleys; materials related to Ms. Karon's publishing career and her relationship with her agent and publisher; letters and fan mail from readers, arranged by month and year only; memorabilia; professional and personal correspondence; reviews and press publicity; research related to Karon's novels; files related to charitable organizations and boards; architectural drawings of Esmont Farm; files and journals related to the purchase, restoration, and running of historic Esmont Farm, Albemarle County, Virginia, by Karon; personal and family papers; files pertaining to Jan Karon's advertising career, particularly the North Carolina tourism campaign for McKinney and Silver; photographs; artifacts; audiovisual material; and born-digital material, including disks and hard drives.

Papers of and collected by Maben Jones, a genealogist from Columbia, S.C. Includes Jones' genealogical notes, correspondence, and research papers, including photocopied correspondence, legal papers, and other primary source material concerning the Jones family, Flippen family, LeGrand family, Dibrell family, Walker family, Walton family, Scott family, Woodson family and West family. Most of the families that Jones was interested in were from Buckingham County, Va.

The collection contains 26 maps of the New World, dating 1541-1778, which illustrate the progression of European geographic knowledge about Virginia and North America from the 16th through the 18th centuries

Richard G. Joynt's collection of British manuscripts, from the 15th to the 20th century, of 88 letters and documents, 41 cut signatures, and many book engravings. The authors and signatures include kings, queens, prime ministers, nobles, military officers, authors, and other dignitaries. Personal matters, military orders and letters, religion, treaties, politics, intrique, and much more are covered in these letters, often interwoven with current events.

Royal Court of Guernsey contracts by Sir Edmund Andros or representative, both written in French. May 20, 1675 rent and inheritance of third party contract signed by Charles Andros, Lieut. of Edmund Andros, Lt. Gov. of New York and Bailiff of Guernsey and Lord of Sausmares, written on vellum with attached seal. Contract of third parties, addressed to Eleazar Le Marchant, Lieut of Edmund Andros, Lord of Sausmares, Lieut. Governor and Bailiff of Guernsey for Queen Anne, dated October 18, 1706, signed by Eleazar LeMarchant, Thomas De Lisle and Hellier Bonamy with the seal of the Bailiwick of the Island of Guernsey and reverse coat of arms of individual, probably from a signet ring, written on vellum. Includes a November 11, 1929 letter from Edith Carey, the donor, with some history of Sir Edmund Andros, Guernsey, and a list of possible buildings that might have an association with the college. Includes a postcard of St. Martin's Church, Guernsey where Andros supposedly worshipped.
