Mecklenburg County (Va.) Deed, 1791. Consists of a deed conveying 600 acres of land on the Meherrin River in Mecklenburg and Lunenburg counties from Bartley Cox to Lewis Burwell for five hundred pounds.

Mecklenburg County (Va.) Fiduciary Records, 1765-1945, include miscellaneous records filed in a local court by trustees, administrators, executors, guardians, and committees that related to the performance of their duties managing a person's estate. These records typically include the following; bonds, appraisements, audits, inventories, accounts, estate divisions, settlements, dowery records, etc. Information related to enslaved people are commonly found in these records.

Mecklenburg County (Va.) Free Negro and Slave Records, 1781-1882, include a bond between Sophia Jones and the Commonwealth (1849); Peter Hutcheson's petition to exempt a slave from the levy (1788); lists of slaves (1851, 1853, 1856); certificates of importation of slaves (1781-1819); certificate of purchase of slaves (1837, 1838); fees for registrations of free negroes (1828, 1831); free negro register (1820); free negro registers renewed (1827, 1831, 1836, 1838, 1842); documents and lists relating to requisition of slaves and free negroes to work on the fortifications (1863-1865, n.d.); and a letter from former slave Jennie Brown of Corinth, Mississippi, to the sheriff inquiring about her family in Mecklenburg (1882).

Mecklenburg County (Va.) Land Warrant List, 1783. The list contains six land warrants issued in Mecklenburg County in May and June 1783. The warrants were issued to Jacob Chavers, assignee of John Jones; Edward Cheatham, Samuel Hopkins, Sr., John Johnson, Assgn. of Edward Cheatham, Benjamin Petty Poole, and William Neal.

Mecklenburg County (Va.) Ministers' Returns, Marriage Licneses and Index, 1785-1842, records the returns made by individual ministers of marriages performed within the county. Whether single or in the form of lists, these returns record the date of the marriage and the names of both parties. Single returns mentioned the location of the marriage and sometimes the minister's denomination. This volume also contains marriage licenses prepared by the county clerk and presented to the minister who would perform the ceremony. These signed documents "authorized and licensed" or "licensed and permitted" the ministers to perform the actual marriage ceremonies. The license indicated to the minister and the public that there were no impediments to the marriage. These licenses were intermixed with the ministers' returns from 1832-1842 (pages 105-164.) There are some interesting notes found in the back of the volume. On page 27, there is a record of a marriage (1799) between slaves Thomas and Mary owned by Sir Peyton Skipwith. Page 47 records the marriage (1811) between Thomas Hill & Fanny R. Baptist, the parents of notable Confederate General A. P. Hill. In 1822, page 76, is a marriage of free coloured persons William Kersey and Margaret Ivey.

Records, circa 1780-1931, undated, consist of the following series: Military and Pension Records, Road and Bridge Records, School Records, Tax and Fiscal Records, Wills, Township Records, Court Records (subfield series include Judgments Criminal Records, Chancery Records, Clerks' Records and Finance), Bonds/Commissions/Oaths, Election Records, Fiduciary Records, Land Records, County Administrative Records (subfield series include Board of Supervisors Records: Road and Brige Records,Overseers of the Poor Records and Board of Supervisors Records) and Business Records.

Registers of Free Negroes, 1809-1865, of Mecklenburg County list the registration number, age, name, color, stature, marks or scars, and in what court the person was emancipated or whether the person was born free. Some clerks recorded additional information not required by law. Volume 1 covers the years 1809-1841 and Volume 2 covers 1841-1865. Each volume has a separate index at the beginning of the volume.

Mecklenburg County (Va.) Report of commissioners appointed to lay off county into townships, 1870, gives the township names and boundaries. Also included in the report is the location of the voting place for each township. Townships include Clarksville, Palmer's Springs, Boydton, Bluestone, Christiansville, Buckhorn, Flat Creek, and South Hill. The commissioners were Harriss, Puryear, Mason and Haines. The report was admitted to the record by the clerk of court on 1870 April 24.

Will books, 1782-1798, of Mecklenburg County Court. The will books includes the name of testator, list of heirs and year the wills were proven in court and probate records such as inventories and appraisements.
