Includes an “Act Authorizing Payment of Expenses,” 1825 where the General Assembly approves the payment of $10,178.04 for the costs of the event. There are several pieces of correspondence including a between Robert G Scott to Dr. Jesse Cole, sending payment of $1,000 prior to the event to pay laborers, with Scott assuring he would provide more funds upon his arrival. A letter between William Boatwright to Henry Butler about the arrival of Boatwright’s servant, Eugene, sent to help at General Nelson’s house. There is also correspondence between James Warrell to Gov. James Pleasants, requesting payment for decorations for the event.

Abstract Or Scope

Contains reports of joint stock companies paying dividends sent to the auditor by district commissioners of revenue. Includes a list of "Tax on Dividends" from 1848, and a copy of the letter that was sent to the commissioners of the revenue throughout the state. A majority of localities reported that no such companies existed in their jurisdiction. Those that did report joint stock companies would list just the company name or go on to include the head of the company and the board of directors. Many companies existed across multiple localities, and are listed several times throughout the reports.

Abstract Or Scope

Contains a list and register of joint stock companies within the state, letters with reports and amounts of taxes due or paid by joint stock companies, and two ledgers. The first ledger lists taxes on dividends paid by banks and insurance companies from 1861 to 1869. The second ledger lists taxes on dividends paid by banks and other businesses from 1843 to 1859.
