Driskel, Jean Roth papers, 0.1 Cubic Feet Box 2

1915-1971. Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, member of the Union Internationale des Femmes Architectes, and national president (1954-1956) of the Association of Women in Architecture. Designer of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings in Pasadena, California. Collection includes notebook of material relating to Driskel and her career, including a photograph, correspondence regarding her membership in the American Institute of Architects (1949-1958), news clippings (1968-1971), and obituaries, donated by the Association for Women in Architecture. Hooker, Marjorie Mead (Peggy), biographical information, 0.1 Cubic Feet Box 4

1925-2006, Architect of New Mexico. Received Bachelor of Architecture degree from University of Texas (1947) where she was the only woman in her graduating class. After graduating Hooker worked in various offices in Texas and California until she settled in New Mexico where she was an Associate with McHugh and Hooker, Bradley P. Kidder and Associates (1955-1965). She opened her own practice briefly from 1966-1967, until she joined Flatow, Moore, Bryan and Fairburn (1968-1988) to work with Max Flatow on the Albuquerque Urban Renewal Project. She had many firsts attached to her name: first woman to become a corporate member of the Albuquerque Chapter, AIA; she was also the first woman elected president of that chapter (1984); first woman to serve on the New Mexico Board of Examiners for Architects. Collection includes clippings, memorial service material, New Mexico Women's Hall of Fame Nomination form, and photocopies of various awards received by Hooker.

Hook, Mary Rockwell, papers, 0.1 Cubic Feet Box 4

1877-1978. Residential Architect in Kansas City, Missouri, and architect of the Pine Mountain Settlement School in Harlan County, Kentucky. Collection includes photocopies of her autobiography, This and That, articles about her life and work, and obituaries. Also includes audio cassettes of an interview of Mary Rogers of Pine Mountain by Louise Chawla about Hook's life and career. The Kentucky Oral History Society retains copyright and literary rights to the interview.

The IAWA Small Collections was compiled from a variety of sources by Special Collections staff for use in reference and research. The collection consists primarily of biographical materials for women architects, architectural historians, and designers including curriculum vitas, firm brochures, exhibit notices, photographs, and publications. Drawings, sketches, course notes, correspondence, and other materials pertaining to architectural collections are also present.

Jirmunsky, Galina, papers, 0.1 Cubic Feet Box 18

1926-2010. Russian modernist architect. Collection contains 36 original photographs of designs/drawings/built structures by Jirmunsky; a portrait; and a biographical file written by her husband Feliks Aronovich Novikov, Ph.D. (also an architect who designed/built the Palace of Pioneers on Lenin's Hills (now Sparrow Hills) in Moscow) with commentary on each of the numbered photographs.

Nowicki, Stanislawa, papers, 0.1 Cubic Feet Box 6

Nowicki's papers consist of a biographical sketch as well as recollections of Nowicki written by student of the School of Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania. There are photographs of the interior and exterior of her house in Villanova, Pennsylvania, and a photograph of a curtain that Nowicki designed for the Coliseum in Raleigh. Inventory available.

Schmidt-Thomsen, Helga, papers, 3 Cubic Feet Folder 24

Born 1938. Architect of Berlin, Germany, and former member of the IAWA Board of Advisors. Papers consist of twenty-nine architectural drawings for three designs done while a student in the 1960s at the Technical University of Berlin, where she earned her architecture degree. The projects include a design for the Goethe Institute in Berlin; the Pflanzenhaus and Palmengarten, or botanical garden, in Frankfurt; and a student competition for a playground building in which she won first prize. Also includes a presentation, "The Collaboration of Couples in Architecture," given by Schmidt-Thomsen in San Francisco in 1987, and biographical information.

Stamatova, Nadya, papers, 0.1 Cubic Feet Box 7

Graduated in 1981 from the University of Architecture and Construction in Sofia, Bulgaria. In 1990 she opened a private firm "ADA-2-Nadya Stamatova", in Varna, Bulgaria (Architectural And Artistic Design Studio ADA-2). The collection consists of her résumé and photocopies of portions of her work. Inventory available.

Steinmesch, H. May, papers, Folder 16

1893-1979. Founding member and National President (1928-1930) of the Association of Women in Architecture. Materials consist of a photograph of (Henrietta) May Steinmesch; an article, "A Short History of the Association of Women in Architecture," with a brief biography; two site plans, and four slides of her architectural designs. Also has materials on VT Imagebase.
