Two scrapbooks of newspaper clippings added to the collection in 2011. The subject matter is mental health, covering topics such as insanity, murder, suicide, and criminal behavior. Some clippings pertain to Eastern State Hospital (Virginia Lunatic Asylum) and other asylums. Headlines include "The Maniac and the Infant" and "Unfortunate and Melancholy Occurances." Loose papers include Doc. No. 30 "General Table of Patients in the Eastern Asylum...1844"; also includes circular about "Virginia Lunatic Asylum at Williamsburg, Va."; a 1860 permission slip to visit the Eastern Lunatic Asylum; 1858 letter from Butler Hospital about a lecture; book plates of mammals, fish and insects; hand drawn horse's head; a page with attached items: newspaper article on women, a bird, a hand-painted drawing of a woman and a hand-painted drawing of Eastern State Hospital; two pencil rubbings of plants; a note naming the publications by Galt and a partial letter with questions and answers about the activities of the insane.
