Abstract Or Scope

Ledger, 1854-1859, of Benjamin J. Jordan and Company that records the accounts of individual customers. Each account lists transactions in chronological order. Information found includes date of transaction, items purchased, quantity of items purchased, cost per item, amount owed for each item, total amount owed, form of payment, and total amount paid. Items sold include clothing, spices, candles, dry-goods, bacon, wheat, and paper. The company was also involved in the production of iron products such as nails, screws, pig iron, and steam engines. Payments made by cash, credit, labor, and barter of items such as beef, horses, corn, and chickens.
