Papers of Harley M. Kilgore, U.S. Senator from West Virginia. Includes typescripts, correspondence, printed materials, clippings, broadsides, and a photograph. Topics include congressional bills and legislation on diverse subjects; committees with which Kilgore was involved, including the Senate Military Affairs Subcommittee on War Mobilization, the Special Committee Investigating the National Defense Program (also known as the Truman Committee), the Committee on Military Affairs, and the Committee on the Judiciary; the National Science Foundation; various presidential speeches; and a wide variety of material relating to West Virginia, including items pertaining to the Charleston Airport, the Parkersburg Flood Wall, the Upper Monongahela Project, and many other topics.

This collection consists of papers (9 items) dating from the World War II Army service of Harold P. Clark, VMI Class of 1941. Included are two personal letters (1946) from General Wither A. Burress to Clark, and seven photographs of Clark and other Army officers.

Letters, 1943-1946, of Harold R. Cunningham, a Navy chaplain from California. Includes letters written while at the Chaplain's School at the College of William & Mary and while on subsequent duty assignments in Wales, at the Sampson Naval Training Center in New York and aboard the USS Arkansas. Most of the letters are addressed to his mother in California. All others are addressed to his wife.

This collection consists of letters and a postcard, all written by Captain Harrison Forrester to his fiance and subsequent wife, Martha, between the years 1941 and 1945. Also included are five small black and white photographs of cityscapes and a soldier's grave. The letters document Forrester's thoughts before Pearl Harbor, while preparing to go overseas, and while stationed in Germany.

One letter from Corpral Harry Kamil, 803rd Bomber Squadron, 470th Bomb Group, to his wife dated September 24, 1943. In it he describes an airplane crash on the base and the horror of extracting the deceased in the aftermath.

Two letters from Helen Bowden Peters Darlington to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Peters. Contents describe her time in Madrid in 1945 during the war where her husband was working as for the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) out of the American Embassy under the guise of an attache for that organization. She gave great detail to the animosity her husband and other OSS spies received from the regular embassy staff and also told her parents a lot about her living arrangements for the few months she was there. She makes mentions in her letters of Allen Dulles, FRD, and the Ambassador to Spain. She makes mention of quite a few articles for her parents to read and movies for them to watch to gain a better understanding of the type of work her husband performed while in Spain on assignment.

This collection contains the Second World War-period diary and scrapbook of Henry C.L. Miller, Jr. of Richmond, Virginia (1901-1980). The scrapbook contains telegrams, letters, taped-in postcards, and printed memoranda. Correspondence included in the scrapbook is largely friendly correspondence between Miller and Edward Stettinius, Jr., (1900-1949). Stettinius's tone is jovial and highly complementary of Miller in their correspondence. A memorandum dated August 4th, 1942, from Thomas B. McCabe of the Lend-Lease Office states that "Regarding the Miller appointment [as Chief of the Civil Service Requirements Section], I [Stettinius] am delighted." Stettinius refers to Miller as "Chick" and Stettinius is referred to as "Eddie" by Miller in all their private and Lend-Lease Office-officiated correspondence. Aside from letters with Stettinius, Miller's scrapbook contains records of his work on the Civil Service Commission from 1941 to 1944, including tipped-in newspaper clippings, daily schedules, travel authorizations, and official internal memoranda. A tipped-in invitation for Edward Stettinius's farewell dinner from the Lend-Lease Administration is dated October 6, 1943, before his transition to Under Secretary of State. Several tipped-in newspaper clippings at the back of the scrapbook document the work completed by the Lend-Lease Administration and the Civil Service Commission. Miller's "Service Diary" dated from March 17th, 1943, to November 24th, 1942, includes descriptions of daily work, Miller's personal thoughts on his work and the war, and descriptions of the places he visited as part of his Lend-Lease work.

Two letters from Henry C. Moss to Henry (Hank) J. Heusinkveld dated November 16, 1943 and May 6, 1944. Moss served in World War II with the Army's 342nd Armored Field Artillery Battalion, Battery C. He wrote both letters from Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

Six page letter addressed to his wife dated June 15, 1944. In it, he addresses the unknown plans for himself and other troop members, dispels rumors she may have heard about troop plans, and cautions her about the Army censoring their letters. Henry also reports about a swim exercise coordinated by their regiment leader. All were required to swim 100 yards in the pool. Of the group, only 12 were able to complete this task. As a result, the plan was made to visit the pool weekly in order to teach everyone how to swim.
