This collection contains the papers and biographic material, 1899-1946, of the Reed family of Floyd County, Virgina and Warren, Ohio. Included are personal letters and photographs, as well as records relating to service of family members in WWI and WWII. The correspondence series consists largely of personal letters written by Asa Daniel Reed to his future wife, Clarence Elizabeth Mangus (later Clarence Elizabeth Reed), during Reed's service in the U.S. Army. Reed's assignments included posts in the Philippines during the U.S. occupation thereof, in Texas along the border with Mexico, and in Germany and France during World War I. Interwar correspondences focus more on Clarence Reed's domestic life in Warren, Ohio. During the World War II period, Asa and Clarence Reed received correspondences from their son, Eugene Mangus Reed, serving in the U.S. Army. The biographic material series includes publications from the late nineteenth century on health remedies, as well as brief histories of the Ohio and Erie Railroads. The series also contains Asa D. Reed's discharge papers from the U.S. Army, the baby book of Eugene Mangus Reed, and a photograph of Clarence Mangus.

A thirty-nine page Christmas memento book made for members of the Signal Corps Female Telephone Operators Unit. This memento contains letters of appreciation from commanding officers, commendation notes for the unit, thanks for the unit's service, an essay praising their work, three photographs of the officers who wrote the appreciation letters, two photographs of Corps members at work, and an alphabetical list of the women who served.

This collection consists of the papers of Jefferson H. Clark, a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania physician, who was a field surgeon in France during World War I, and of the research papers of his daughter Mary Clark Shade (1928-2009), who was working on a book documenting her father's WWI duty. Mary Clark Shade's research papers include index cards, notes, photographs, postcards, photocopies of articles, and related material. Jefferson H. Clark's papers include diaries, an officer's record book, correspondence, military orders and records, maps (one of which is labeled 'trench map'), photographs, dictionary, his helmet and embroidered helmet bag, a ration tin and a surgical kit. The postcard images include uniformed men carrying artillery over a pontoon bridge, Battalion Drill at Camp Warden McLean in Chickamauga Park, Chattanooga, TN, Night Time at the U.S. General Hospital No. 12, formerly Kenilworth Inn, in Asheville, NC, The Salvation Army making doughbuts under bombardment of German guns along the front lines in France, an image of an unidentified US battleship, a war carnage scene from the battle of Somme, a picture of flags with the poem, "You answered the call to the colors, You proved you were loyal and true; And we- who can't go- will let others know the debt that we all owe to you!", A greeting postcard from Camp Zachary Taylor in Louisville, KY with a cartoon of a female army soldier, a greeting indicating the return of a serviceman (blank) from the Jewish Welfare Board, and a postcard notification from the local board for Toledo, OH of the classification of James S. Vinson for the war department draft. The newspaper clippings show pictures of the destruction of Montfaucon as well as multiple pictures of men of the 112th Engineers, 37th Division in France during the war.
