This collection consists of one certificate presented to VMI Cadet H. Franklin Phillips in May 1943. This "three year testimonial" was presented to each member of the Class of 1944, in lieu of a diploma, when the class members were called to active duty in May 1943. The document states that Phillips successfully completed three years at VMI and was signed by VMI Superintendent Charles E. Kilbourne and others.

This oral history collection spans the World War II era through recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. One interview (Frank Buckles) covers World War I service. The majority of the interviews were conducted by VMI cadets taking courses in military history. The interview files and recordings are housed in the VMI Archives.

The interview covers Morgan's years during World War II at VMI and in the Army Enlisted Reserve Corps (ERC), recollections about graduate school work, and his early teaching career at VMI. The bulk of the discussion covers the years 1941 to 1957.
