Roster of Ex-Confederate Soldiers and Sailors Living in the County of Frederick, Virginia, 1898, is five leaves that record the name of the soldier, age, rank, company, regiment to which attached or in which he served, date of enlistment, length of time in service, and a remarks column which notes things like if held as a prisoner of war, if honorably discharged, if was present at the surrender, and so forth. The roster includes the names of "colored" men. This is not an exhaustive roster of everyone who served in the Civil War from Frederick County but is only of those still living in the county in 1898. The text of the 1898 Act of Assembly is printed on the reverse of each form. The roster is arranged alphabetically and there is no index.
