Description:
The Special Collections Research Center (SCRC) houses one of the largest and most significant collections of rare and unique materials of any educational institution of comparable size in the United States. Focused on Virginia history but with nationally and internationally important collections, the Manuscripts Collection includes letters, diaries, journals, scrapbooks, business records, organizational minutes, and other items that provide evidence of events great and small and the daily lives of Americans of all backgrounds. The Rare Books Collection, with volumes dating from the 15th century to the present, is strong in dogs, Virginia-related items, early Virginia family libraries, gardening and natural history, religion, book arts, printing history, travel, science, and medicine. The University Archives documents the history of William & Mary from 1693 to the present, including a wide range of materials from administrative records, student organization records, and alumni papers to photographs, audio-visual materials, and artifacts.

Boy Scout Photo Album, 1953/1954

Photo album kept by a Boy Scout 'Brownie' in 1953-1954. He documented his troup's trip to Washington, DC and to a plantation in Virginia. The trip was awarded to the winners of a Boy Scouts "E.R.C. Camporee" in 1953. He also took photos during a trip to 'Camp Glen Gray'; a family vacation at 'Lake Valhala'; and an 'educational trip' to New York City with a friend, 1954. Most photos are numbered and content is labeled on pages inserted into the album. Photos on the last few pages are not described. There are a total of 67 photographs, and at least some of them were taken with the Brownie Junior's camera, according the inserted descriptions.

In brief daily entries, Henry describes his daily activities, like going to school, collecting stamps, reading, going to ball games, riding his bike and listening to the radio. He wrote most days in 1934, 1935 and 1936 and less often in 1932 and 1933. Also included are a few loose pages, on which he noted the titles of books and magazines, and kept track of his leisure activities and hobbies.
