The Dr. Richard Zallen Papers document the research and professional development of a physics professor at Virginia Tech specializing in condensed matter research. Papers largely cover the second half of the twentieth century and include information on research at Xerox; professional correspondence; Virginia Tech lecture notes; drafts of published work; and documents concerning trips, sabbaticals, and conferences. Materials include hand-written documents, published material, flat plate drawings, photographs, a sample of "melt-spun amorphous," and stamps from various countries.

The collection includes research files, personal notes, audio recordings, videocassettes, photographs, and publications collected by engineer and professor Earl A. Thornton on the fields of aviation, aeronautics, and aerospace.

This collection contains the papers of Congressional Medal of Honor winner and VPI alum Earle D. Gregory (1897-1972), documenting his time a member of the 1st Virginia, 29th Regiment of the U.S. Army during World War I. The majority of the materials relate specifically Gregory's impact during his first day of combat at Bois-de-Consenvoye, France for which Gregory was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his heroic actions. In his lifetime, Earle Gregory received several awards and recognitions. Some of the most notable awards include the Medal of Honor and Purple Heart, along with a Medal of Honor plaque signed by President Lyndon Johnson, which is a replacement of Gregory's original certificate signed by President Woodrow Wilson which was destroyed in a fire. A total of eleven medals are included in the collection, along with other certificates and miscellaneous items, including a signed invitation to President Richard Nixon's inauguration. The collection also includes items related to his student years at Virginia Polytechnic Institute after the war.

The collection contains student papers from Dr. George Green Shackelford's Historic Preservation classes at Virginia Tech, spanning 1963-1989.

This collection includes documents related to the production and dissemination of George Grigg's and John Carnochan's computer-animated film, produced while students at Virginia Tech from 1969 through 1970 using FORTRAN.

The collection contains the papers of George W. Litton (1910-1989), professor of Animal Husbandry at Virginia Polytechnic Institute (V.P.I.) from 1940 to 1970. These papers date from 1927 to 1983 and include poetry, essays, V.P.I.'s Agricultural Extension station reports, notes, lecture material, publications, personal and professional correspondence, photographs from Litton's portrait hanging, and bound compilations like "Foolishness, Poems, and Philosophy" that function similarly to commonplace books.

The Harry Downing Temple, Jr., Papers contains materials related to Temple's personal life, interest in heraldry and insignia, and his research and publications on the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets. Materials date from about 1872 to 2004.

This collection contains the papers of architect Henry B. Boynton. The bulk of the materials consists of financial and organizational material for the firm of Smithey & Boynton, and awards and honors bestowed on Boynton.

Howard S. Avery graduated from Virginia Tech in 1927 with a B.S. in Mining and Engineering. He worked for the American Brake Shoe Company, later known as the Abex Corporation, as a research metallurgist from 1935 to 1971. The collection consists of Avery's personal papers and photographs related to his student days at Virginia Tech, including photos taken mainly in 1927 while Avery was the photographic editor of the Bugle yearbook. This collection also includes personal papers, correspondence, brochures, and other materials, including professional papers from before his time at Abex.

The Jack Shelton Harris and Shirley Jean Schumann Harris Papers include letters, photographs, a scrapbook, and more. The subjects of the content include high school, Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Jack Harris's service in World War II and the Korean War, and the Harris family. Jack Shelton Harris (1922-2014) graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and earned numerous medals during his service in World War II and the Korean War. His wife Shirley Jean Schumann Harris (1924-2014) graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University.
