Adam Finch Collection

Adam Tyree Finch graduated with the Class of 1893. Finch returned to VPI in 1898 to teach Military Science and Tactics. Finch also served as Commandant of Cadets and Assistant Professor of Physiology and Materia Medica before leaving VPI in Spring of 1900. This collection includes scrapbook pages containing photos and materials from Adam Finch's time as a cadet and VPI. Also included is a letter of recommendation from President Barringer and a letter written by Finch about an alumni reunion.

This collection contains Virginia Polytechnic Institute memorabilia from Claibourne Walton Beattie, Sr. (1896-1971), class of 1919, and his son Claibourne Walton Beattie, Jr. (1923-1978), class of 1951. The collection contains a 1924 graduation invitation and a 1951 commencent program. The collection also includes several programs and bulletins related to events on campus. There are several pieces of a cadet uniform, such as a hat, rat belt, and cords. Attached inside the hat is an event calender for The Lyric Theatre for September 1941. A copy of the Report of the Commissioner of Agriculture for the Year 1875 has a section about VPI.

The collection also contains university catalog of 1894-1895, school annuals (The Bugle) of 1895 and 1898, photographs, and fundraising literature for the construction of War Memorial Hall. The collection also includes two business account books, probably used by Perkins for bookkeeping coursework.
