This series contains many materials relating to his South African mission. Dr. Leyburn saved a number of newspaper articles concerning South Africa, which are contained herein. Reports on various industries and other aspects of South Africa are included. Also within this collection is an assortment of Dr. Leyburn's speeches, some of which concern South Africa. The remainder of the speeches concern the future of Washington and Lee University.

Series IV. Philip Showalter Hench, 1850/1966, bulk 1837/1960 21 boxes Box 34-55

Series IV. Philip Showalter Hench primarily consists of materials that Hench created or collected while researching the U.S. Army Yellow Fever Commission. Items in this series date from around 1850 to around 1865 with the bulk of the items dating from 1937 to 1960. Researchers who are studying the yellow fever experiments will be particularly interested in the materials (e.g. interviews, autobiographies) that document first-hand accounts of the events surrounding the experiments. Other researchers may be interested in items that document Hench's role in shaping public memory of the commission and its experiments. Series VIII. Miscellany, 1849/1982, bulk 1885/1974 11 boxes Box 66-75, 154

Series VIII. Miscellany consists of oversize and miscellaneous materials in the Philip S. Hench Walter Reed yellow fever collection that were, for various reasons, not included in any of the other series in the collection. Items in this series date from around 1849 to 1982 with the bulk of the materials dating from 1885 to 1974. These materials include, but are not limited to the following:

Series VII. Truby-Kean-Hench, 1879/1960, bulk 1900/1954 4 boxes Box 62-65

Series VII. Truby-Kean-Hench primarily consists of materials relating to Albert E. Truby and Jefferson Randolph Kean that Philip Showalter Hench created or collected while researching the yellow fever experiments. Items in this series date from around 1879 to around 1960 with the bulk of the items dating from 1900 to 1954. These items include, but are not limited to the following:

Zeta Beta Tau scrapbooks, 1948/1949

A collection of oversize scrapbooks from Washington and Lee University's Zeta Beta Tau (Z.B.T.) fraternity documenting student life, various annual university and fraternity specific events such as Homecoming Weekend, Fancy Dress, home football games, concerts, Mock Convention, fraternity social events, membership, and pledgeship. Scrapbooks include original photographs, artwork, clippings, and ephemera. There are nine scrapbooks between the years 1948 adn 1977.
