Special Collections is located in Carol M. Newman Library at Virginia Tech. Special Collections includes manuscript collections, rare books, and the University Archives, as well as state, local and historical maps and photographs. The Carl George Krieger Papers include correspondence, speeches, notebooks, photographs, audio and video recordings, a scrapbook, and clippings and magazine articles on topics related to agriculture, gas, oil, tractors, air and water pollution, waste treatment, and public relations. Krieger (1905-1979) was the first agricultural engineering graduate at Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1926, and he was a gas engine specialist and a pioneer in the development of the high-compression tractor.

The collection contains papers of Chapman J. French, civil engineer employed by Norfolk & Western Railway from 1903 to 1950. It includes correspondence, memoranda, working notes, and specifications for projects as well as company and engineering department procedures. Also includes personal papers, largely relating to purchases for household and farm.

Kraft, Christopher C. (Christopher Columbus), 1924-2019
The Christopher C. Kraft Papers consists of approximately 28 cu. ft. of manuscripts, particularly NACA and NASA reports and documents, meeting notes and agendas, and research materials. A later donation contains the manuscript for 2001 Kraft's autobiography. Kraft (1924-2019) graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Virginia Tech) in 1944 and went on to become NASA's first flight director and the director of the Johnson Space Center.
