Special Collections is located in Carol M. Newman Library at Virginia Tech. Special Collections includes manuscript collections, rare books, and the University Archives, as well as state, local and historical maps and photographs. Map shows railroads between various locations in the southern United States, in the areas encompassed by the Mississippi River and Atlantic, from Charleston (South Carolina) to Chicago. The Morris Estates, highlighted in color on this map. No creator name appears on the map, though T. W. Tarbet may be a publisher. Additionally, the titular "Morris" has no identification apart from the geographic situatedness near Oceana, West Virginia. Map contains some specific numbers about the estates, supplying acreage, tax rate, potential profit, and nearness of railroad.

The Named/Individual Photograph Collections include images from alumni and former faculty and staff, or individuals with ties to campus and the New River Valley. Collections (c.1890-present) depict campus life and events, railroad history, agricultural extension research, Blacksburg and surrounding areas, and some local families.

Norfolk and Western Railroad Company (1881-1896)
The Norfolk and Western Railway Accounting Department Personnel Records are comprised of employee records of the company's accounting department from 1874 to 1907. The three ledgers include such information as employee name, age, marital status, date and place of birth, date of hire, jobs worked, and salary. Also included are notes regarding resignations or discharges. Interspersed throughout the ledgers are correspondence, memos and notes relating to such things as employment reference requests from other companies and employee infractions against company policies.
