Ebenezer Dickey Junkin Scrapbook, 1853/1856

Presbyterian minister Ebenezer Dickey Junkin's pocket sized bound scrapbook of articles submitted to the Presbyterian Watchman and Observer newspaper by his father, George Junkin, D.D. between 1853-1856. George Junkin, under the pen name Theophilus, wrote the series of letters to the Richmond, Virginia publication on the role of the church in higher education. They include his commentary on the relationship between chuch and government. Junkin penned the letters during his tenure as President of Washington College in Lexington, Virginia. E.D. Junkin titled the scrapbook, "Lux Mundi - A series of newspaper articles on the education question by the Rev. Dr. George Junkin, 1854 or 6"

James Graham Leyburn Sunday School Lectures, 1949/1950

This collection consists of a small three ring binder of typescript Sunday school lectures by Dr. James G. Leyburn, one of Washington and Lee's most revered 20th century professors. Leyburn used this notebook to teach his class at the Lexington (Va.) Presbyterian Church from October 2, 1949 to the final class of the year on May 28, 1950. The lectures cover and introduction to the Bible, it's characters, and the tenets of Presbyterianism. In the final lecture, Leyburn details a transformative experience that occurred during his college years in regards to his Christian belief system. Also included in the collection is a 1969 pamphlet published by Washington and Lee University titled 'Profile of a Teacher: Dr. Leyburn' and an enlarged photocopy of the Leyburn's final lecture of the Sunday school notebook titled 'What I Believe.'

This folder contains newspaper clippings about the local history of Presbyterian churches as well as two imprints: one dated 1900 and entitled "Minutes of the Fourth Annual Rockbridge County Sunday School Association," and one missing its cover, dated 1902, entitled "A Letter to Presbyterians." Also contains undated paper, author unknown, "A History of Presbyterianism in Rockbridge County and Its Effects on the People."
