Materials regarding the Constitution Party and other conservative political organizations created and collected by Joseph B. Lightburn. Folder 1 contains handbills, correspondence, etc. of the Constitution Party of the U.S.A. and the Constitution Party of West Virginia (1961-1963). Folder 2 contains pamphlets, newsletters, correspondence, and clippings pertaining to conservative political topics (1957-1970); topics include: income tax repeal, constitutionalism, anti-communism and anti-socialism, arguments against sex education, and a potential world government. Folder 3 (oversize) contains conservative newspapers and bulletins, including issues of The Augusta Courier (4 different items; 1965/11), Constitution-News Review (2 different items; 1961), and an American Education Lobby special publication on sex education (ca. 1969), among other material. Joseph B. Lightburn of Jane Lew, West Virginia served as National Committeeman for the Constitution Party of West Virginia; folders 1 and 2 include items authored by Mr. Lightburn. A collection of typescripts, brochures, pamphlets, books, tape recordings, and assorted ephemeral publications concerning radical political and economic groups and community organizing related to labor history in Appalachia and the United States as compiled by Keith Dix. Organizations and publications represented in the collection include New Directions in Labor (1970-1971), New American Movement (1970-1971), New University Conference (1971), Labor Research Association (1971), Students for a Democratic Society (1963), and Radical Education Project (1968-1969), among others. Also includes material from 1923 to 1976 concerning coal mining labor relations and the role of unions such as the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA). Topics of these items include rank-and-file members of the union, strikes, agreements, and mechanization. Tape recordings contain oral history interviews conducted by Keith Dix. Interviews chiefly concern coal mining in West Virginia. A more complete list of publications and tape recordings is available in the library. Most of the collection is arranged according in subject files, according to the topic or name of organization.

Records of the League of Women Voters, Morgantown-Monongalia County, West Virginia. Includes membership lists, minutes, proposals, plans for conventions and environmental projects, and guides to government officials. See the scope and content note for detail.

Includes minute books of the Martinsburg Board of Trustees (1813-1857), the Council of the Corporation of Martinsburg (1857-1862, 1865-1894), and the City Council (1894-1981). There are also ordinance books, 1870-1981.

News clippings, photographs, cards and correspondence of Wood County Commissioner, Marvin Leach. Documents developments in Wood County and nearby of such projects as installation of a new courthouse building, Mountwood Park and the Parkersburg-Marietta Airport. There is much on the routine duties of a county commissioner such as purchase of new equipment and attendance of ceremonial functions.

Papers of Hu Maxwell (1860-1927), historian, editor, and author of several county histories of West Virginia, along with papers and records of other family members. There are manuscripts of fiction, verse, and local history written by Maxwell, as well as a number of his manuscripts and publications dealing with forestry which were prepared while he was a member of the Forest Service of the United States Department of Agriculture. Maxwell kept a diary during the years 1901-1919 while residing in Morgantown, Chicago, Illinois, and Washington, D.C., which is extensive for the period of World War I and which contains notes on the diary of Rufus Maxwell (1855-1907). Papers used by Patrick Carone for his thesis "Governor as a Legislator in West Virginia" (1969). Includes 11 scrapbooks maintained by West Virginia Governor Okey L. Patteson's press officer documenting Patteson's election campaign (1948), subsequent public relations activities as Governor (1949-52), and life after his Governorship (1953-58). The scrapbooks contain clippings, photographs, programs, tickets, and buttons; topics include annual governor's conferences, festivals, football games, Churchill and Wheeling Downs, and the St. Mary's Centennial Festival (1949); photographs are numerous and include an annual Governor's conference in White Sulphur Springs (1950), the Governor's Mansion of WV (1951), and entertainers Frances Langford (1950) and Dagmar (ca.1953). There are also about 21 3-inch reel audio tapes of interviews conducted by Carone in the late 60s with WV politicians, including John E. Amos, Don Eddy, Holt, Thomas Myles, Okey L. Patteson, and Harry Pauley. The bulk of material dates from 1948-69. There are "scattered" clippings and correspondence regarding Patteson from 1947-80 in two folders.
