The original owner of the album is believed to have died on the USS Golet during World War II.

Victorian photo album (with exterior of faded dark burgundy cloth and tarnished gold-toned bas-relief ornaments) with built-in music box containing cartes-de-visites, cabinet cards, postcards, tintypes, and two negatives. Includes individual and family group portraits. Subjects of photographs are unidentified, except for postcard portrait of Pastor J.O. Patterson of Main Street Church of Christ in Elkins, West Virginia. Photographers are identified on some of the card mounts, including Loar and Company of Grafton; Von Allmen of Elkins; Nestor of Elkins; Arcade Studio of Akron, Ohio; Fad Foto Company of Gallipolis, Ohio; and Stanton Photo Company of Springfield, Ohio. The collection also includes the calling card of Jackson J. Triplett and two gift tags illustrated with roses and doves. Digital material includes recordings of the music box.

Photographs were taken by multiple studios in Virginia including the E.C. Leath Photograph Gallery in Petersburg and the Virginia, Evans and Son Gallery in Norfolk, virginia. Other photographs were produced by New York based studios including Adams Studio and Richard Ward Studio. The photographs include carte de visites, tintypes and postcards.

A ledger of customers, prices, dates and worked completed by a Taylor County tannery, mill and store owned and operated by the Corrothers family. The mill turned out a variety of leather products ranging from boots to book bindings. Included are entries on repair work particularly shoe repairs. There are also receipts of this mill with an address at McConkey, WV, especially tax receipts. Also included are photos of William A. C. Corrothers and a genealogy of his family.

Diary, 1943, kept by Private William J. Lawler while he was stationed in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Niagara Falls, New York, Tenessee, Georgia, and Denver, Colorado during World War II. Most of his entries in the diary are very detailed, and some of the entries were written by his wife, Nancy Selina. The entries record his life as a service member in the United States Army. Topics include Lawler attending basic training, details of his wife's pregnancy, attending flight school, going to school, the birth of his new daughter, taking care of his new daughter, traveling across the country, going to movies at the service club, his attendance at Catholic mass, and writing letters to his wife. William Welling Papers, 1949/2004

The papers of William Welling document his career as a photographic historian. Welling worked as a journalist for the Hamden Chronicle from 1949-1950 and several of his articles are included in the collection. Series 2 holds correspondence between Welling and prominent photographic historians Helmut Gernsheim (1913-1995) of Lugano, Switzerland and George R. Rinhart. Series 3 includes Welling's extensive collection of photographic history research primarily on the 19th century for his books A Collector's Guide to Nineteenth Century Photographs (1976) and Photography in America: The Formative Years, 1839-1900 (1978). Series 4 and 5 are papers related to the production, promotion, and sale of these two works, while series 6 includes copies of photographs and negatives used for the books. Series 7 includes several years worth of photographic history journals the majority of which are "Photographica" and "In Focus." Series 8 and 9 include research related to other book projects that Welling aspired to write, but did not complete.
