Abstract Or Scope

Collection contains a single notebook compiled by Julian C. Ruffin (1821-1864). Ruffin was a student at William & Mary from 1837-1839. Julian C. Ruffin was the son of Edmund Ruffin (1794 -1865,an American planter, politician, scientist and advocate for the southern states to secede from the United States before the start of the Civil War. He joined the Confederate army and died by suicide. His son, Julian Ruffin also joined the Confederate army but was killed at the Battle of Drewry's Bluff in Chesterfield County Virginia.
