The Charles Campbell papers consist of papers received or collected by Charles Campbell (1807-1876), Virginia historian. The papers fall into four general headings: historical papers collected by Charles Campbell, correspondence, manuscript volumes, and miscellaneous. These include personal and professional correspondence as well as eighteenth century documents collected by Charles Campbell, newspaper clippings, diaries, scrapbooks, and notebooks, covering then period 1743-1896. The papers reflect Charles Campbell's interests in history, teaching, newspaper editing, railroad engineering, politics, genealogy, publication of his works, and the town of Petersburg where he lived for most of his life.

A hundred page handwritten diary kept by G. B. Keeler. Keeler worked and lived in Petersburg, VA. The diary contains details of his home life and mentions of his work as a contractor and mason.

Cunningham in the Virginia State Agricultural Society. October 22, 1875. Two incomplete notary drafts for George A. Cunningham and Emily Cunningham concerning a corporation in Georgia and Virginia, dated 1889. Letter to Emma Cunningham in Richmond, Virginia from her husband, George A. Cunningham, in which he asks her not to spend money because she is ruining the business, suggests a marriage separation, and tells of the trouble "Branch" is in with the law and financially. July 17, 1890.

An artificial collection of papers created from material acquired during the 1930's and 1940's. Mostly letters, financial records, published material and official records of individuals in Virginia and elsewhere. Includes documents and signatures of well known people, such as Benjamin Harrison, John Randolph and Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Papers and photographs, 1871-1913, bulk 1873-1904, of the Peebles, Watson and Arrington families of Norfolk and Petersburg, Va. Includes letters, primarily from Joseph Littleton Peebles to Kate S. Watson during their courtship and marriage. Also includes genealogical notes. The Peebles farm is a part of the Petersburg National Battlefield Park.

From the library of Charles Trotter Lassiter. Scrapbooks, circa 1804-1901, containing a series of articles entitled,"Petersburg in the Olden Time," by Moratock. One scrapbook has handwritten copies of numbers 1-5; and the other scrapbook has newspaper clippings of the entire series.

Contains letters, photographs, and other material related to the Winfree and McIlwaine families of Petersburg, Virginia. The bulk of the letters are addressed to Dr. John Winfree and are handwritten with envelopes. Most of the photographs are tintypes and pertain to the McIlwaine family, including photographs of William Baird McIlwaine, who attended the University of Virginia and became a doctor. Most of the letters have to do with business affairs, predominately of the Winfree family.
