Debussey, Adolphus

Civil War correspondence of the DeBussey brothers of Ravenswood, WV. There is a single letter each from John DeBussey and George DeBussey. John DeBussey served in the Confederate Army while George DeBussey served in the 2nd. WV Cavalry. Most of the letters are from Adolphus DeBussey who served in the 4th. WV Infantry as a musician. In his letters Adolphus documents the service of his regiment in the Kanawha Valley early in the war and in the Western Theater during the battles of Vicksburg, Mississippi and Chattanooga, Tennessee. There is much mention of fighting and prolonged encampments in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee, and West Virginia. Included are details of an 1861 Confederate raid on Burning Springs, an 1861 skirmish at Gauley Bridge, and the 1861 battle of Guyandotte. The letters also record his experiences during Sherman's march through Georgia. The collection includes Corporal Adolphus DeBussey's flute with its case.

The Artemis Sisters Collective was a local Morgantown, West Virginia feminist collective formed in September 1982 for the purpose of promoting women's empowerment through creative, political, and social engagement. The bulk of materials range in dates from 1980 to 1987 and include information regarding the SisterSpace Collective, various women's defense committees, musical acts, and social activism. Materials include posters, pamphlets, correspondence, cassette tapes, meeting minutes, flyers, press releases, photographs and t-shirts.

Includes published and unpublished piano-vocal scores and full scores of arrangements and original compositions by Trinkley; also includes recordings of his works, and of the Penn State Glee Club of which he was the director. There is also an autobiographical sketch, a resume, a list of choral publications, and a list of works. Bruce Trinkley spent the formative years of his musical education in West Virginia in the vicinity of Bluefield; he later taught at Penn State University from 1970-2005.

There are scrapbooks for the Women's Music Club (1 volume, 1904-1919), Music Dept. (1 volume, 1951-59), and CAC events (9 volumes, 1966-92). A photo album contains photographs of the construction of Eisland Hall (ca.1953-54). There are also slides, photographs, and other records documenting the construction and dedication of the CAC facility (ca.1966-68). A slide show with accompanying audio cassette that profiles the facilities and programs of the CAC (ca.1976-79). The inception of WVU's "School of Music" is documented by an original announcement outlining staff and course of instruction for the 1897-98 academic year. There is also an addendum of 2004/09/16 (1 record carton, 17 in.) that includes CAC dedication program (1969), newsletters (1982-1998), and news releases (1989-1991).
