Papers, 1770-1875, of the Blow family of "Tower Hill," Sussex County, Va. and of the Waller family. Prominent correspondents in the collection include Philip Barraud, John Hartwell Cocke, Henry Lee and Edmund Ruffin. Most of these accessions were integrated as the collection was partially processed, but some are boxed separately.

Receipt book, 1853-1876, of Dr. G. G. Davison, Lexington, Va. The receipts were pasted into a printed book which was also used as a scrapbook for newspaper clippings.

Daybook, 1854-1879, kept by James Turner Clarke, physician in Augusta County, Virginia. Also includes copies of deeds of trust for the benefit of Clarke, bounty land warrants for War of 1812 obtained by Clarke; 1907-1908 transactions concerning the building of a tower on the Methodist Episcopal Church (South) at Mount Solon, Virginia. and notes, 1910, concerning archaeological digs in Arizona.

Includes accounts as a doctor in Augusta County, Virginia, with members of the Blakemore family and with Jedediah Hotchkiss (p. 33) and accounts of drawing up legal documents, surveying, and selling merchandise (including books, papers, and school supplies). Also contains register of births of enslaved persons, free Black persons, and whites (1857-1897).

Membership and fee book, 1852-1854, of the Medico-Chirurgical Society of Richmond, Virginiaa. The volume was also used as a record, 1867-1870, of visits by John P. Little, physician.

Ledger, 1845-1871, of Joseph Wilson, physician, of Churchville, Augusta County, Va.

Personal papers and business accounts; 1820-1900; of the Luttrell and Cooke families of Rappahannock and Culpeper Counties. Includes correspondence (personal and business) between Luttrell and Cooke families, the Garth family, Ficklen family, and family in West Virginia. Papers discuss Buchanan's inauguration, Sons of Temperance, and the difficulties of a doctor trying to establish a practice at Bridgewater, Va. Also includes letters; 1853-1859; from family in Missouri which discuss living conditions, abolitionist activities, agricultural pursuits, and other.

Papers, 1732-1932, of the Maupin and Washington families. The bulk of the papers, 1850-1870, are letters received by Peter Grayson Washington who served as Assistant Secretary of the U. S. Treasury from 1853- 1857. Most of the letters relate to political patronage, Democratic Party politics and the various responsibilities of the Treasury Department. Later letters relate to Washington's work as a claims agent in Washington, D. C. and to his investments in New York City. The collection also includes letters written to Socrates Maupin (1809-1871), professor of medicine at the University of Virginia, including letters to him and correspondence of his son Chapman Maupin (1846- 1900), during the American Civil War and while studying in Europe. Letters and ephemera relating to Chapman Maupin's interest in his Washington forbearers are included as well. There are also land records, autographs and a carte-de-visite of Edwin Booth.
