Abstract Or Scope
Three minute books of the Flat Fork Baptist Church. Volume I: January 19, 1850 to April 11, 1869, begins with the organizing of the church, and contains minutes for monthly church meetings. The minutes include general business transactions, acceptance and exclusion of members, appointments of clergy, obituaries, and other similar actions. At the back of the volume are lists of members, lists of pastors, and the original deed for the church property. The lists of members include changes in names of female members due to marriage, reasons for members leaving the church, and death rates of members who remained with the church until their deaths. Volume II covers the period of May 8, 1869 to May 12, 1895 and Volume III runs from July 13, 1895 to August 1, 1948. Both of these volumes contain the same sort of material as the first: membership lists, obituaries, and minutes of meetings.

These records reflect the economic and population growth typical of WV after the Civil War. The naturalization papers reflect immigration patterns to this coal mining section of the state.

Includes genealogy and Civil War records collected by Roy Bird Cook of Lewis County, West Virginia. Series 1 through 5 were compiled by Marcellus W. Zimmerman. They include correspondence, church records, academic records, genealogical records, research manuscripts, and clippings regarding primarily the genealogy and history of Lewisburg and Greenbrier County, and the life and career of Confederate Brigadier General Alexander W. Reynolds. Series 6 through 8 were collected by Roy Bird Cook. They include military records and clippings regarding West Virginia units, the Confederate 31st Virginia Infantry, and other Confederate units from Virginia; there are also business and miscellaneous records, including ledgers, clippings, research notes, etc. Series 9 includes oversized material from earlier series.

This collection includes manuscripts, printed and newspaper materials collected by Rufus A. West, a Morgantown antiquarian and faculty member of the College of Engineering, West Virginia University. This collection includes papers concerning many phases of West Virginia History, although centered on Preston, Taylor, and Monongalia counties. Includes marriage licenses from Preston County, 1881-1947; newspaper clippings from Morgantown newspapers; a meeting invitation from the Monongalia County Historical Society, 1947; newspaper clippings on the emancipation of slaves in Taylor County; and a concert program from the Morgantown Musical and Literary Society, 1880.

Vestry minutes and parish records of the Zion Episcopal Church of Charles Town. The vestry minutes concern business meetings of the church, ministerial appointments, program scheduling and church maintenance. A detailed account of expenditures and donor bequeathals is included. The parish records contain indexed and unindexed records of birth, marriage, membership and burials as well as ledgers on contributions to theological education, missionary efforts, charity disbursements, church repairs and debts. Of special note are records of funds sent after the Civil War for Southern relief to Georgia, Louisiana, and Tennessee.
