Family papers, periodicals, newspapers, clippings, maps, and other materials of the Price family in Marlinton. Most of the papers are those of Andrew Price, a Marlinton attorney, including records of the law firm of Price, Osenton and McPeak. Other materials, ca.1901-1949, concern J.W. Price, a Marlinton physician. There are muster rolls of Company C, Sixty-second Virginia Infantry, C.S.A., from Pendleton County; and manuscripts of essays, verse, and historical articles written by Andrew Price.

This collection includes artwork, correspondence, indentures, maps, newspapers, photographs, postcards, and publications from 1670-2004.

Collection consists of a variety of transportation-related documents, maps, and images. The most numerous group in the collection is approximately 150 postcards of Washington, D.C. from the early to mid-20th century, many of which include streetcars as well as famous streets and buildings.

Papers mainly related to the Civil War in southern West Virginia, including correspondence, maps, photographs, newspaper clippings, muster rolls, and other material. Highlights of the collection include material regarding Captain John V. Young of the 11th West Virginia Volunteer Infantry; Captain James S. Cassady of the 7th West Virginia Cavalry; Captain W.D. Thurmond and his company of Partisan Rangers; and the 8th and 13th West Virginia Volunteer Infantry units. The collection is organized into seven series, including: 1. Papers of the Tavenner family of western Virginia, including correspondence, newspaper clippings, maps, and other material. Much of the material in this collection regards the Civil War. The Tavenner family was sympathetic to the Confederate cause. One member of the family, William Cabell Tavenner, served in the Confederate army; his letters are part of the collection. This collection also contains material related to families allied to the Tavenner family by marriage, particularly the Withers family, including material regarding Alexander Scott Withers and his book Chronicles of Border Warfare . Papers of Rush Meadows, a Charleston, West Virginia, mining engineer and mine operator, containing correspondence, maps, reports, and photographs on companies involved in coal, oil and gas production in Appalachia, the Rocky Mountain states, and Latin America.

The Sanborn Map Company created large-scale maps of more than 12,000 American cities and towns during the late nineteenth and twentieth century to provide fire insurance agents with sufficient information to assess fire insurance liability. Maps show size, shape and construction of buildings, street names and widths, property boundaries, building use, and the locations of water mains, fire alarms, and hydrants, among other things. The Sanborn Map Company updated the maps to reflect new construction and changes in existing buildings, thereby illustrating the urbanization of America. Collection contains Sanborn maps for towns and counties in West Virginia from 1884 to 1934, though most date from the early twentieth century. Typically, there are several maps for each location. There are some microfilm copies available in collections W-1526 and W-3432. There are also digital scans available for most of the maps in this collection (except where noted). The Addendum of 2013 June 17 contains one volume of Sanborn insurance maps for the town of Buckhannon, including the base map of 1930, and amendments for 1947, 1956, and 1961. The Addendum of 2013 December 04 contains two volumes of Sanborn insurance maps for Morgantown, WV; one is from 1927 with corrections to 1948, the other is from 1927 with corrections to 1954.

Papers, maps, and photos of William C. Stiles and Samuel B. Stiles, developers associated with J.C. Rathbone and J.N. Camden in the oil industry of Wood County, in particular of the oil boom town of Volcano. Most of the papers are business correspondence, receipts and oil drilling records dealing with family owned business in Parkersburg and Volcano, namely the Zero Oil Company, the Power Oil Company, and the Jackson Land and Mining Company. There are family photographs, and records and correspondence about Volcano in which the Stiles had substantial holdings. On August 4, 1879, there was a fire in Volcano which nearly destroyed the whole town and which was presumed to be due to arson with the intent to hurt the family's financial fortune. The history of Volcano is reflected in subsequent Pinkerton reports, news clippings, and correspondence between S.B. Stiles and local historian H.E. Metheny.
